One thing I'm having a hard time understanding is how this "...some people got a little too optimistic in the last 3 years and partied like it was gonna be 2020 forever." happened. What kind of CFO/money person thought the boom was going to continue and was able to convince private investors, people who's whole job is figuring out market cycles, that it was worth taking a chance on? Why/how?

@jonkranked tommy crail rides MTB too and is living in virgin for the winter (according to his insta account). i know the bushwhacking days are over and there have to be safe lips and landings, it's just too over-the-top with traversing sidewalks linking hyper-manicured features. i'm still bitter about brendog's score the year of the Rock. maybe olly's billygoating in that vid above is a hint at what's to come for brendan. have to imagine gee's lines will be pretty aggressive, too. all that said, i hope everyone is safe and smart out there.

The old Whiteface courses would be in no way World Cup caliber. They would need to start from scratch. They traversed the mountain back and forth a ton anyway. If they need to meet the time requirements they could have an amazing course that just came down the fall line of the mountain. Very possible. The top half would be STEEP. Then the bottom 1/3 would flatten out a bunch but they could do some open grass turns with some big jumps or something to get to the bottom a little faster. Yeah, the truth about inserts is we never know whether racers are running inserts or not. Tire manufacturers want to be able to claim their racers like the manufacturers tires as is, "our tires don't need inserts," etc. That said, if I were Greg this season I would have started running a rear insert about 10 race run flats ago.

You think a niche sport like ours should have our top guys bagging on hard tracks that make them pedal & ride intellugently with finesse & tactics rather than Bruni in his mega aerodynamic unobtainium Dyneema wind tunnel outfit that takes 3 people to pull him into so he can ski race down a Euro slope after 2 pedal strokes?

Lake Placid is where Whiteface is. DH Mike who runs the DVO Race Series at Bootleg Canyon used run the bike park there. It would be an interesting place to host a World Cup. I have been there since 2010 but it Long, technical trails, a total beat down. I think winning pro times were around 8 minutes? To keep it steep and under 3 minutes they would have finish mid-mountain.

Asa signed a Frameworks contract months ago… before his Enduro nats, BME wins and US Open silver, and has already been doing tons of testing with upcoming Fox and Maxxis stuff. Honestly for an American kid, Frameworks is the dream setup... Stay in Brevard with Neko when you aren’t riding moto in the desert all day with your dad, team accomdation in Morzine, spanish team HQ out of Martin Whitely’s house, with Martin handling much of the euro logistics… That’s about as “factory” as it gets!

I think a lot of people are taking ESO and the UCI's claims that a 30 rider final and tighter times makes for a better fan experience at face value. I can see where they are coming from with these arguments, because they are basing them on other successful sports, but I don't think they're right. One of the most beautiful and compelling things about downhill racing is that there is no 'formula' for success. You can have the perfect bike, the best preparation, the most dialed team infrastructure, and still get beat by someone who just had the raw...

There is a local dude here who uses a stem mounted wahoo, couple of GPS watches and an iphone and records them all on strava, each will have discrepancies which will ultimately give him one device with a best time (usually the phone) There was a rumor that on one trail, there is a tricky chute/corner at the end, he literally took the wahoo off and threw the thing to the end of the segment to skip the feature lol

I much preferred it when he dunked on the big V and encouraged people to imolate themselves rather than talking actual sense.
