1/5/2025 12:38pm We have entered the part of silly season where people float (and debate!) wild speculation that a 42 year old Dan Atherton returns to downhill (last result was 57th at Crankworx in 2018) on a new rubber band bike to chase a $100k podium. Perhaps we need an award for most ridiculous rumor every year. 🤣🤣🤣

1/4/2025 5:51pm Is only personal-gain for this one-man-show. Outward talk of course is actionable change within current economic times, yet is going to prove a long-game for current leaders this Oaf wants to impress. This is a person who only speaks about himself - every time, all the time. A penny in his pocket is our 'good' to his blinded eye. Tariff = Border/Immigration = Greenland/Panama = 'Chyyyyynaaaa(sic)' & Ruskie Merchant Vessel trade routes. This long game w/ TV Stars, Vampire-Expert ex NFL players is meant to continue avoidance of continued regulations on the environment in order to open transport through the...

1/4/2025 5:27pm Dan wouldn’t even be able to qualify for a final. Being a fast rider at your own bike park you ride everyday is completely different from racing world cups.

1/4/2025 5:25pm Rachel Atherton is coming out of retirement for the 100k lol, the bike is being built, and she's probably the most capable between men and women on taking it. Sure it been awhile since she's raced, but I'm guessing she could still be first on race day if she put her mind to it.

1/4/2025 5:16pm Danny was doing a meet and greet thing at the bikepark I worked when he was at Saracen......which they spectacularly failed to advertise. So I basically spent all day being his personal chaffeur/hang out. He has possibly the driest wit of anyone I've ever met, super down to earth and does not tolerate bs. Top lad.

1/4/2025 5:09pm Not saying things don’t work out well in the end. I just imagine it must be frustrating to spend years getting a bike to feel exactly how you want it and then immediately move on for business reasons. Not to mention handing over all your homework to the next rider.

1/4/2025 5:07pm It must be hard for athletes who have to be outwardly “stoked” on their new sponsor when they are forced to give up a bike that offered a competitive advantage. Tahnee going from that new Canyon to a bike that doesn’t even exist yet must be painful. It would be cool to hear a podcast on the ones that got away - thinking Gwin and his intense, Athertons with Trek, Greg with Honda and Sam Hill and his Iron Horse 😢

1/3/2025 12:18am Manufacturers shouldn’t be saddled with carrying the burden of a social safety net though- that is a particularly American Problem, and it’s why this thread exists in the first place… The American economy is a blind consumption machine based on hope and smoke and mirrors and the fantasy of infinite economic growth The underpinnings of the economy are not sound- poor STEM education, horrible educational outcomes per dollar spent, 3rd world healthcare outcomes, historic attacks on family planning, zero affordable housing being built or subsidized, automobile and intermodal-shipping container-centric infrastructure… all Americans pay real social and economic costs for these...

1/3/2025 12:17am Your local bike mechanic doesn’t make enough money to enter a bike race, let alone buy a bicycle. The stock market isn’t the economy. The vast majority of americans are living one paycheck away from homelessness, in constant fear of medical debt, with less purchasing power every week due to the financialzation of the economy, stock buy-backs and sheer unregulated greed. Ymmv, of course.

1/3/2025 12:16am I would say that most American's think the economy is bad because the top 1% make all the profit while they struggle to make ends meet on crappy wages. Half the US households don't have a 401k.

1/2/2025 11:27am There are a few factors: - Norco is owned by LTP, which is a distributor of other brands in Canada. Norco has long been financially floated by the relative profitability of LTP - At one time Norco had a solid XC team, a DH team, sponsored the Gehrigs for Enduro and had Jill Kintner and Bryn Atkinson, and a bunch of others at the same time not too long ago. They dropped everyone else. - They just split with their CEO with "no plans to replace him". The company was flying him in from California to BC every week as...

1/2/2025 11:23am Also, someone must get to the bottom of where Norco is finding all this money in 2024 and 2025 with the bike market being in the dumpster. Greg, team manager and part-time racer has to still be commanding $200-250K+/yr. Then 6 factory-level riders. Granted the only 'big names' are Danny and Erice (Danny likely still came at a discount, maybe $175k). But still, having 6 full-time riders, Greg part-time. That's a ton of mechanics, travel expenses, etc. And their marketing budget is considerable, based on what they did last year with the videos and design. This fresh team announcement video...
