I'm an old guy from Spain. Three years ago I bought and ebike "to do some exercise". There's a small bikepark/trail network near my house. Got into some e-enduro and felt in love with them gravity things, so I started following the DH WC and EWS and got obsessed with all things MTB.
Last year I introduced a friend who is s trial-bike guy to the WC and he is now a fan too. Been feeding him snippets from this amazing thread about the "silly season".
Yesterday, he asked me:" any news from Mondraker?" Told him "the espionage things were getting out of hand and we were now analysing freckles " We have s mega laughing session. Btw, he tried his hand at the EFDA and concluded you were on point : " It's Dak, no doubt in my mind"

Intense frames, with some other major/title sponsor (possibly outside of MTB?), along with all the component sponsorship like he has done in the past.
Gwin beats to his own drum and his done well financially (it seems) doing his own deal rather than answering to an established team, etc. He also seems to enjoy working with smaller brands to do that development work and get things exactly the way he wants.
Neko said it well in his podcast, good riders are going cheap in this market right now. So why would Trek or someone of that caliber be willing to pay what Gwin can/has earned when there are tons of other proven riders that NEED a ride and will go for cheap? (In a previous podcast with AG he told Disco/WB that they couldn't afford to pay him to commentate)
Gwin hasnt been the most consistent over the years due to injury as well. Granted, we all want to see him back on the top.. but its a big risk considering the amount of time he has been outside the tape. (see previous comment about proven riders needing a ride)

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gwin’s in a bit of a tight spot when you consider that he’s effectively a team owner without a title sponsor and now without his right hand man. Pretty much all of the brands that could afford Gwin are spoken for and I don’t see him slotting into someone else’s program at this point in his career. It would be amazing to see him take over as the yeti factory team for dh but if that doesn’t come together he’s probably going to be riding the frame he got paid to develop, but for free.

I will say that with Richie doing a few more WC events this year, maybe Yeti could add another rider to make those expenditures go a little further. But Gwin would be doing them a favor, because I highly doubt they’d pay his normal asking budget.
As much as Gwin wants to race, he could probably do a lot of other stuff and pay the bills just fine.
