Hello Vital MTB Visitor,
We’re conducting a survey and would appreciate your input. Your answers will help Vital and the MTB industry better understand what riders like you want. Survey results will be used to recognize top brands. Make your voice heard!
Five lucky people will be selected at random to win a Vital MTB t-shirt.
Thanks in advance,
The Vital MTB Crew
Really!? Thanks that’s news to me, didn’t know they did that!
See the Sid and Deluxe Flight Attendant at the Les Gets WC today, looks really refine so the release can be later this year or Spring 24. Seems to be a proto XC Williers on the paddock too. And finally Mavic is coming back with the Yellow on a new Deemax DH Ult and limited run on the Deemax Enduro (kinda looks like their Crossmax XLS but with burlier rims, 1920gr). And there will be a Deemax Bikepark, bit heavier than the Ult but for 450€ rrp
If evil leaves the delta who’s buying them?
the only reason I got one is the delta, the most fun platform on the market
And what’s so fun about the delta? It’s just a single-pivot design.
Evil moving to DW-6 would definitely get me to consider them again. I was a die hard Evil fan for many years, I owned 4 of their frames in a row, then their “improvements” became so incremental that my eye started wondering to other brands. When they switched to Superboost it was the final mail in the coffin. Hopefully they have something new in the works that would get me to consider them again.
Marketing is a hell of a drug.
Single pivots are Hella fun, because they're bikes and they soak up bumps. Do you prefer hardtails?
The linkage generates a vaguely S-shaped leverage curve as shown below (source). That's it.
Edit: Also fun to note is that despite all of the Enduro's linkage complexity and marketing, there's nothing at all special about its leverage curve.
If you look at damping force as felt at the wheel for a given vertical wheel speed at 0mm and 60mm, there is a 56% increase for the wreckoning and a 21% increase for the enduro. This is due to the majority of the progression on the wreckoning happening early in travel. Personally I think this is where progressive suspension designs get the reputation for being less predictable. When you have a large change in leverage ratio over a short amount of travel the bike will react very differently with pretty small changes in wheel position. A ton of progression before the sag point does have a potential upside though. Riding trails where the wheel is predominantly falling into ruts/holes and rising back out can be smoothed out easier with this curve since you can tune for very low damping force at full droop while still having decent damping at the sag point.
All Pull linkage (im fairly certain) suspension develops S shaped leverage curves.
You could isolate the inflection point within the curve (think Commencal Supreme V4, Evil, Antidote Darkmatter, Deviate Claymore), or keep it outside the range of the suspension's operation (Norco Aurum HSP, Deviate Highlander), but yeah that's my general understanding as well.
We’ll have you ever tried one?
also that dumb comment “marketing is a hell of a drug”
have you ever tried one @nskerb?
I tried one without knowing it was even a bike brand few years ago, it was a evil calling, not the best up, not the best down in being glued to the ground, although that ride was a party.
I tried more than 30 bikes from other famous and nice brands and while many were better in some aspects, none were as fun to ride.
so marketing have nothing to do with this, and “it’s just a single pivot” means nothing.
simple suspension scheme can be amazing if well tuned, but unless you try it’s hard to judge properly
please keep it tech rumors, not over analysing kinematics and discussing it in here, there are separate threads for that.
thx!
I've been watching pits bits from Les gets and I noticed something interesting, Scott team is running Shimano drivetrains and as expected they use saint cranks (real ones not like Laurie lol) but they are also on ochain, so it seems to me they either bodged it somehow (and I find that very hard to believe that they would remove the spider and we're able to somehow reliably reattach suitable mounting interface back on the crank arm) or possibly new saint cranks will be the same as previous generation just with dm chainring. The video in question https://youtu.be/vHhBc61VPXo?si=m1mJAVWcw6ZXrgx9 Scott section starts at 2:25
Here it is. And Goldstone has one too on this post https://www.instagram.com/p/Cw_d3s8xp8f/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&ig…
Knolly has been working on a new long-travel enduro bike. Expect some news very soon!
Something different than an Warden or Chili in the Gen 6 style we know is coming?
Wasn’t there a picture of one floating around at crankworx? Pretty much the same but with straighter tubing?
Looks like a new rocker paddle coming from SRAM for the latest AXS pod.
Seen on Richie's Instagram story a couple days ago. Custom air valve cap, or something else?
Dunno why you got downvoted for that; it's part of a BYB data acquisition set-up: https://www.bybtech.it/telemetry
Probably because it was posted on the last page too
Oops. Missed that in all the kinematics talk. Well, question answered, at least.
No I haven’t tried one. I’d be stoked to try one of the opportunity presented itself but I won’t really make an effort to seek one out to try.
I just don’t think you can call it the most funnest suspension platform ever. That’s pretty subjective. Is there quantitative information to back that up, or you just think it’s really fun? I have a newer Norco, it uses a series of links and pivots to connect a shock to the frame and I think it’s pretty fun also. But it’s probably just fun because it’s a bike with a rear shock. All of the suspension platforms that aren’t super high pivots are now more than ever getting very similar kinematic wise. It’s all just marketing to get people to buy shit lol.
Great sleuthing. Are you sure that isn't a Saint decal on a wide spindle XT crank? The new M8130 XT cranks for Superboost frames run a really wide spindle that I imagine you could run on an 83mm bottom bracket.
That crank has been in the "wild" for awhile...

Don't think I've seen it be mentioned before, but a lot of riders sponsored by YT have been running the new Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate on the Tues, even though they're built around a 267x89 shock rather than the metric sizing that all of the newest Rockshox shocks use. I'm assuming its a custom item that Rockshox are producing for YT just because they want sponsored riders to be using their latest and greatest tech rather than the now decade old Vivid (although Johann Potgieter was on one at Worlds), but it got me thinking, are there any other current bikes that are still using imperial shock sizing and therefore be due an update so they're compatible with all of the shocks that are only available in metric sizing?
That is not the same crank 😂
I'm very sure, the sharp edges of the saint crankarms are clearly visible in the video(and no other Shimano cranks share similar profile, they are all much rounder and overall smaller as expected),on the picture of Marine saint logo on the inside of the non drive side crank is also exactly the same as the recent saint has.
