https://forum.cyclingtips.com/t/laid-off-caley-fretz-dave-rome-matt-de-…

"Today Caley Fretz, Dave Rome, Matt de Neef and Daniel Benson (Editor-in-Chief of VN) were let go. Plus lots of other staff (including Steve Brawley who has been with CT for years in sales) and others throughout the company. 12% in total.

What a clusterfcuk OutsideInc is. Robin Thurston has gotten his head over his skis and singlehandedly fcuked up dozens of good media publications in just 2 years.

Goodbye CT. It was good while it lasted."

Super bummed about this. Though CyclingTips focus was mostly road/gravel, their podcast Nerd Alert had amazing coverage of tech innovation - carbon recycling, additive mfg, supply chain deep-dives, all kinds of enlightening stuff, and a healthy (and entertaining) skepticism of “but it’s 3 watts faster!”. Cough, headset cable routing. Dave Rome’s tool obsessions are dorky in the best way. And most of them ride mountain bikes too. Hoping for good things for them in the future.

Did I miss any news about bad ass Gracey Hemstreet? the norco disbanding thing, etc? One of the best riding styles i've ever seen, hope she's taken care of.

Looks like Becci Skelton doing the no handler. Already sponsored by Saracen

I still reckon Mikayla Parton will be joining Atherton..

She spent a lot of time up there last year as well - at one point when the rumours were about who Pivot was signing as a new female rider, I speculated it might be her as she was in several BK vlogs- shows how shit my speculation is!

Surprised no one has mentioned the red head in Whistler wearing a RedBull helmet and riding a Session, had me fooled until my kid pointed out that it wasn't a POC helmet.

Was Bernard Kerr's recent whirlwind trip to Greece to sign a certain expat Brit rider whose main bike sponsor just paused their racing program for 2023? Or is he just really into Souvlaki?

Or to do be there to support one of his big sponsors in introducing their 2024 line up...

You sure it didn’t just look like a session? Smile

A quick instagram search tells me he's been without a redbull lid since January 2021

Disappointed that the (almost) last standing Outside website scooped "us". Henrique Avancini has sold so many bikes for Cannondale, that he must have moved on of his own volition. Results don't sell necessarily bikes in Brasil, personality does (also cars and futbols) Red Bull did an in-depth media dive with him EVERY race. 90% of MTB fans probably think he was up front racing for the lead. Always a smart move to go out front and promote your brand, when you know you probably won't be in the camera shot at the end, (right, Haas F1?)

I wonder if that means Louise-Anna does not get a factory ride then or if they're going to have 2 podium-threat women?

Sorry maybe I missed something but I don't think Louise-Anna is a podium threat, yet. Though, I would say that it would be a great thing for her to have an experienced and proven athlete in Vero Widmann !! Would be great to have both tackling the WC circuit together !

Louise won Rotorua… by a pretty big margin. 21 secs in horrible conditions. she’s had plenty of wins in the past, so no doubt she knows how to pop a cork of a champagne bottle.

Yeah- I should've mentioned that. Would have been wild if a factory Honda team was back. Isn't Minnaar in the rumor mill? And Whiteley rumored to be running a team? Perfect setup for a Honda Factory resurgence.

I think you try to see more in that one than there is (local sponsorship VS global factory ride).

For what it's worth, I seem to recall one or some of the honda team early on riding unbranded turner dhr frames in a one of the Earthed. But I have a poor memory so could be mistaken. Seems very unlikely that honda would make a dh bike again. Would be awesome tho.

If you listen to the Martin Whitely downtime podcast you'll know what the reasons back then were and why it won't happen again. I won't spoil anything because it's a great podcast.

I stand corrected. thanks.

While I have you here I'll tell an extra corny joke: "I stand corrected" said the man wearing orthopedic shoes.

It’s cold outside and it’s his job to put out content.  While it seems Jesse is definitely on the move I wouldn’t look too much into riders putting together highlight reels in November/December.

My bet: Jesse is staying with Rocky. Yes its the "most boring" scenario for us nerds, hence the fake posts are him giving us some fodder. Such a nice guy.
