I have a feeling the Junior joining TFR is Ethan Shandro. On instagram he posted about how hes changing things up for the new year and has a post of himself doing some riding for the new Anthill film "Return to Earth" coming out later this year.
Good chance Trek is sponsoring this new film as many of the trek riders have posted about their segments in the upcoming film. If Shandro is a part of the actual trek team this year then he would for sure get a spot in the film, I wouldnt be suprised if they tie his dad into the segment in some way.

TL;DR its my best guess that the junior on Trek will be Ethan Shandro

I believe one needs some numbers to be able to have your bikes made by one of the big guys like Merida or Giant. Wink

Try to think about how many bikes Specialized or Trek are making yearly, because they're the biggest customers of the two above, then add those volumes to the bikes produced under those guys' own label and you're getting somewhere.

There are enough smaller factories in Asia who could make the stuff. For instance, try to find out where Saracen bikes are made,that could be a starting point. But I am doubting we are going that route...

Wasn't the special thing about Athertons and Merida that they have established quite a tight link over the years? If so, I doubt the Athertons would just buy frames from Merida.

That would make it more of a "let's sneak a Merida DH bike into the market labelled Atherton", so Merida wouldnt care that much about the numbers imo

Making up the numbers with a few engineers and based off a few test bikes is not hard. Engineering a frame to work correctly for a company like Merida wouldn't be hard. Then, just to put some gasoline onto a fire, distributing the DH bikes as 'Atherton by Merida' or something like that would give tons of street cred for the bikes and make the marketing damn easy (as it doesn't say Merida on the frame, it says Atherton), but you have the channels for distribution all set up.
