1/17/2022 6:01am I got an old mangled Di2 mech here, I might see what the minimum current would be to get it to move about, however it may need signal. I reckon a couple of CR2032 batteries in series would get it going, total weight.... 5grams?

1/17/2022 6:01am That's pretty cool tech, thanks! Seems to have the same problems as a dyno hub tho; requires a special hub and a way to distribute the power to the component that need it. I wonder if it can be made small enough to fit in a jockey wheel/derailleur cage?

1/17/2022 6:01am In the angling world, Shimano has what they call "DC" braking for baitcaster reels. It's basically a tiny magnetic power generator that also uses the magnets to to activate braking during a cast (to control line speed.) You can watch a short youtube video explaining it here. My guess is something similar could be possible by using the rear hub to power a rear derailleur, after all, you only shift when you are moving. This is just a guess though, as I'm no engineer.

1/17/2022 6:00am This article by member @wheelbased got me thinking, what's a logical endpoint for the trend of electrifying bike parts? What's your best guess? Assume it's NOT an ebike (and if you can figure out how to power an ebike without batteries why are you reading my dumb, cold medicine-inspired post?) A few of thoughts below but I'm more interested in how it COULD be workable instead of my uninformed guesses. This isn't my field at all so please educate me! - Piezo (as outlined in the patent article above), not a lot of power (not enough to run a solenoid...

10/15/2021 10:38am Know these have been spotted already a few times, but I noticed in the latest PB rampage video that the proto hope levers were actually labeled tech4. not exactly a revelation but interesting either way.

10/14/2021 8:32am The [large] shop I worked at made most of its money off of bikes [hybrid/urban, mountain, road in decreasing order], although clothing and accessories had better margin. Service work was effectively break-even [lots of free tweaks and adjustments for existing customers] and margin on parts is terrible. Online sales were fairly small when I started there, about the same revenue as 1 full-time salesperson, but with lower margins. Even before the pandemic, online sales were ramping up, but once April 2020 hit...
I can't recall the exact numbers, but online sales quadrupled [more?] overnight, margins improved, etc. It's become...

10/14/2021 6:53am Besides the massive amount of work that goes behind making anything truly novel, licensing rights can be valuable. If other companies want to go D2C, Trek can license it out (or sell the box itself). Or, if Canyon, YT, etc. like this box, they can buy it, too. Everything new deserves a patent, no matter how small others may consider...

10/13/2021 2:51pm Hey everyone. I have a pretty important article for you folks to check out. Trek have patented a bike box, but it's not a normal box. They say this box is "to be directly delivered to end users". So, it's a direct-to-consumer box. The technical side of the box isn't the focus. Rather, it's the market implications. Trek left a...

10/6/2021 7:52am i think its a cool piece of tech, and wouldn't mind throwing a leg over a bike equipped with it to try it. in terms of racing, i certainly get where your coming from where the bike is doing something automatically being an enhancement. it'd be cool to see some testing to see if it would actually provide any benefits on the clock. it would have to be conducted as a controlled blind test - same trail, several riders, and several identical bikes equipped with and without axs suspension. you might need a really loud hub or something to prevent...

10/6/2021 7:02am Thanks man, appreciate that. I was nervous as fuck. I'm hoping others understand the fundamental question here: Do you want to watch racing, where the bike provides a secondary thought process outside the rider, to control some factor on a bike. Or, do you want the racers in complete control? The threshold here is a secondary thought process, and that's...

10/6/2021 6:41am I see it from the privateer eyes.. does not help to level the field.. bunch of factory guys with AI built in their bikes and others struggling to get super freshly service forks for the race day.. i dont know, dont get me wrong, I like the engineerding of it.. and today you have data acq and custom tuned suspension, some teams have the resources for it and others dont, may be its the same.. but come race day , they should all be sort of leveled, manual lock outs? You still need to trigger it with your finger.. active...

10/6/2021 6:31am Nice Podcast with blister Dan, .. I am totally inclined to think that these things cannot be allowed in racing. let's see what regulations end up being.. geeking out is cool and all but this has no place in racing disciplines..

10/5/2021 4:46pm With all this excitement over the new SRAM active system, I figured I'd share Fox's possible solution that was just released (good timing), which is a very similar wireless active system. The weird part is it might work like the old EI shock, where the fork controller tells the rear shock what to do with a time-delay. Another thing is...

10/5/2021 10:14am It is my opinion that electronic suspensions have no place in racing. I'm all for engineering marvels and recreational use. I think we should take note from other racing disciplines that have removed the racer from the equation and then reversed course.

9/8/2021 1:41pm The switch kinda thingie part in the suspension comes from the vertical link pulling the lower link up until the vertical link passes past the main rocker pivot, after that point the lower link should start rotating back down. Therefore a similar behaviour as the switch 4-bar suspension systems.
