8/17/2025 7:53am Thanks to everyone for the comments so far. Few things to note... GPS Accuracy: This is something I've battled for 2 months. I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it turns out to be. At this point, I'm within my edge 130 with respect to accuracy (maybe a touch below that). Is this good enough? I think so. Strava runs a few algorithms server side (once you upload) that are patented (ask me how I learned that haha) to smooth/clean up the data. Overall, accuracy will improve as I see adoption and can justify spending money...

8/17/2025 6:50am RE: 2016: People may not remember this, but it was not a good year in the bike industry. Europe had terrible weather in March and April, Brexit was happening, there was an unforeseen glut of inventory (at the wholesale/distribor) level in the USA and China saw a big slowdown that caused their market to contract. If you go dig around you'll see stories on this stuff. As to the future, while I don't have a crystal ball, I do believe they'll hit their 2025 numbers. This is not inflation adjusted, just raw sales numbers. One thing I learned in working...

8/17/2025 6:45am Great comment. I realize all of us bike nerds on here with multiple bikes represent a small segment of the market and the following is a privileged, first-world comment of the highest order, but: - I've got a RAAW Madonna as my big bike and a 160/150 Fuel EXe. - My daily driver is an MX 5010. I built up the 5010 figuring that if I built up a real-bike trail bike that rode too much like my ebike, I'd be too tempted by the ebike. With how burly enduro bikes have gotten and the rise of ebikes, I'm even...

8/17/2025 6:44am I can only relay to this thread what was relayed to me, although apparently it was the stance of multiple dealers that the new, heavier but more capable platform had lost some of the charm of the predecessor and a large part of that was that it just didn't feel like a little bike anymore. Maybe the interior of BC is an anomaly, but yeah, the shop sells an absolute ton of ebikes. Sure. Are regular bikes still selling? Absolutely. The shift has actually been away from what we would have considered as great first full-suspension bikes for people (2500-4500...

8/17/2025 6:41am Not sure why the downvotes are coming in. This year, a brand at their Canadian dealer event brought all their A-level dealers into a meeting and asked them "our ~130mm trial bike that we're really proud of isn't selling, what gives and what do we do with the next one?" and the dealers, nearly unanimously said "it can't be 37 pounds in that category". While it's true the demands on trail bikes have never been higher, if I'm going to be pushing a bike that weighs the same as a 160mm bike, pedals the same as a 160mm bike, and...

8/17/2025 6:36am Santa Cruz is taking inspiration from Crestline and doing a 100 unit Bullit with a custom fleck/splatter paint job. Earns some points for custom painting the brakes. I’m sure it will only cost $14k or something. 🤣

8/16/2025 1:43pm There is an interesting interplay going on here between the human brains capacity to normalize things that have been seen/done before, expanded boundaries of athletic performance and a few new tracks evolving up to a comparative level. I think if we could see 1199 with “new” eyes, watching riders learn the track for the first time, it would likely be seen in a similar light as La Thuile BUT because we now know what to expect and are watching riders who have largely expanded their comfort zones for large features ride a track that they are familiar with our subconscious...

8/16/2025 1:41pm Hopefully I can articulate this well. Jackson doing so well is because he is an undeniable generational talent. A small component of this is likely that he has the ability to know what works very well for HIM at a young age. This includes equipment, geometry, and riding style. Everyone else looking at Jackson and thinking, what works for HIM will work for ME, is probably moving further from what they should actually be doing. I’m going to hypothesize that any rider who tries to make changes to look more like Jacko are actually going to take a step backward...

8/16/2025 1:34pm The rules for DH are almost as simple as saying that whoever rides a bike from the top to the bottom fastest while staying in the track limits wins, and I love it. Any type of hyper specific equipment rules like those in road racing or ski racing just limits the innovation that's required to be the fastest. If somebody wants to wear ankle weights or put oobleck in their tires because they think it's better, then they should let them. Let the fastest rider win. Shake weight in the steerer tube? Sure. Hamster bottle for the rear brake? Have...

8/16/2025 12:52pm I was always told that if you keep finding yourself with the same problems then maybe it’s you that’s the problem. Jokes but seriously no wonder some people hate derailleurs if they go through that many, I’ve only wrecked 1 fully through an impact, others have worn out through use.

8/14/2025 10:52pm It also costs more to build a car from parts than it does to buy one off the lot. That is how most products are.

8/14/2025 10:34am Finally! A proper electronic DH rear derailleur. I've been wondering when we'd be able to pay $1500 to ruin three derailleurs on the same rock in one race weekend. Can't come fast enough.

8/13/2025 12:33pm Yeah, there is absolutely zero chance they have a mould that's that far along and show it off as not final. I guess they're going to band aid it with an angled hose guide in the footprint of the original. Either that or someone is gonna get rich selling kashima zip ties.

8/13/2025 12:32pm Good eye, and that's hilariously bad. I'm 99% certain that no one planned out hose routing before making this arch for the test fork, and somebody had to get out a drill and give it their best shot. At least I'm hoping so, because that hose location does NOT look ready for prime time.
