I think the only real feasible situation where orbea buys that truck and signs both Vali and Andy is they intend to appeal to the German speaking market in Europe as well as former yt customers. Sounds very expensive though. While I’m sure fmd is bargain for the results/coverage they are getting they can’t be cheap. Perhaps a situation where yt is fulfilling the athlete salary side of things to avoid penalties and orbea is coming in to take on all the other costs associated with operating a team season to season. Just a guess if that rumor is indeed...

Financially speaking, if Orbea wanted a truck at North American events, they would buy a truck that is already in North America. Shipping a vehicle like that overseas is not cheap.. Plus, all the other legalities with registration and such.. I can't see that making any sense, even if they did a full blown team here..

9/2/2025 12:19am I dunno, even if you get a deal you still have to maintain it, keep it roadworthy and store it for the majority of the year. Maybe it'll change, but I don't see enough money flying around in the industry for that to be justifiable right now.

Which sector specifically? I think the sorta 'kids FS' market will either not improve or improve very slowly cuz that's about as niche as it gets. Most kids aren't like Wes backflipping crab apple so kids have pretty standard or arguably decent values in the rigid and hardtail sector. You can grab a 20" hardtail, Norco Storm for 480. And the 24 inch version for 500. And the superior Charger models or Speshy/Trek options for ~700. And a Marin Rift Zone 24/26 FS for 1700. And of course a bit cheaper from Polygon/YT or generally chasing sales. I dunno how...

Except that both of those teams are currently based in Europe.. I haven't really seen Orbea with much of a presence on the US DH scene.. Maybe that changes as the US DH scene seems to be on the upswing?

As for evolution, these are my three previous, full suspension AM/trail bikes: These are: Commencal Meta 5.5.3, entry model, 2008, ~2000 € Giant Reign 1, top spec alu model, 2015, 3000 € Bird Aeris AM9, custom built (high spec), 2019, ~4500 € I've since moved to a Bird Aeris 9 in 2023, which is very similar to the previous Bird. Such a shame that Cami Balanche is stepping away from racing after her brief but spectacular career.
