I wonder how far that statement by EnE regarding the use of flax composites in non-structural applications,extends to structural aspects of a bicycle, especially an MTB. And it costs more than CF. Ouch. like we need to pay more for bicycles as it is.

I like the linkage design. I’ve often messed about with quick and dirty sketches along the same lines. Something about the aesthetic implementation looks a little industrial but the charts look good and I bet it rides nice. I also like a low bottle mount but maybe that’s a discussion for elsewhere...

Do you think the harshness is because the wheelpath seems almost totally forward? A decade ago when i had to short-shock all of my trailbikes to get decent geo, the square edge performance always sucked afterward.

I’m actually really excited about this bike. It looks like the perfect affordable back woods trail bike with a short wheelbase for the tight and often janky trails we have here. Something to throw about and actually ride without worry of licking a £2k carbon frame. But will the frame hold up to that sort of abuse? It’s the constant problem I face. I want little bike geo but big bike durability. Maybe at this price it doesn’t matter!

Kind of epitomises Uk back woods riding. All these lads do. I get the Santa Cruz connection and they’re cool bikes no doubt but I’d love to see these guy aboard something more rootsy and affordable for younger riders who’re riding this kinda stuff on the reg. Although at this point I’m not quite sure what that would be. Expensive game. Anyways, as always Mr Lewis, a big thumbs up from me.

This poll is perpetuating the misconception that HTA matters all that much, as you said it’s the sum of all things and the long front center that matter. Major manufactures are gradually moving towards what the others have already figured out (like Pole), that the distance of the front wheel from the BB is what matters most and it’s a combination of fork offset, reach, and HTA that determine this. The gap is closing between the like of Pole and Nicolai and everyone else.

As bikes have become more capable (and my skills improve... I hope) I'm finding I need less and less "mechanical" advantages and am preferring a more "spicy" bike to keep the trail alive. 800mm bars have done a great job of stabilizing a front end at speed, while a steeper HTA allows a lot of side to side play on the trail. But I like to have fun on trails, I don't need to go faster in a straight line and make a trail boring. Racing is different as it's 100% speed, 100% of the time, which is more plow...

Once you start getting super slack a whole lot of factors become even more important. Even the wrong front tyre can change the riders perception of what works and what doesn't. I've just steepened my Enduro and reduced the sag to try and get front end grip and cornering confidence back. A different tyre has also helped. My HT which steepens from 65 to 66 at least when sagged has far better front end cornering grip on various tyres, even those with unfashionable minimalist tread. My previous 66.5 Enduro seemed to be the best of both worlds...

These athletes voluntarily participate in a sport governed with rules and a part of that is PED testing. It's nice that they weren't caught with CERA or popped for anabolics, but in this case the testing actually (really!) is binary: They both failed a drug test. You can call it a grey area, but then when they're sanctioned will they "sort of"...
