About as expected, thanks for confirming! And yes, your experience mirrors mine, standard habit is to buy three rims whenever I build a wheelset.

Spoke tension was good on arrival and has stayed that way since, with both wheels still fully true. This is fairly common in high-quality carbon wheels actually, and definitely one of the main selling points IMO. On the other hand, I can't remember the last time I had an alloy wheelset that didn't require some work (or a new rim!) at some point.

Sorry to be negative, but this design is just dumb. Look up an image search for "trek supercaliber snapped". Its more complex, heavier, harder to service, more expensive, and doesn't allow for as much travel as a normal design. Other XC bikes have lighter frames and 100mm of travel, while Scott's has 120mm of travel.

not necessarily. as noted, ours had pedals, a bigger front tire and two bottle cages when weighed (real world). trek also never mentions actual size used for that 20.5 weight.

Claimed weight is 20.84lbs for a size Medium. Trek lists weights of their bikes under Specs for each bike.

AndehM Liked a reply to forum topic Do You Measure Fork Sag?

8/10/2023 4:28pm
In the past, I checked sag (usually 3 times & averaging) when setting initial pressure, since the charts never seemed remotely close for me. But for the latest round of RS stuff, the pressures suggested by the chart/TrailHead app has been pretty much spot on for me, maybe +/- 1 psi in fork and a few psi in the shock. So I haven't bothered measuring it lately. As other's have said though, the o-ring is useful for seeing how much travel you use on big compressions though. Fork felt good with the baseline pressures but had lots of travel left...

Just remembered this because of the tech rumors thread... Anyone connecting the bleeders should be careful, turning the bike upside down will likely make the oil flow from one leg to the other. I'd say it could be possible to make one of the legs starved of oil. I'd stick to the setup just for testing purposes.

I had the Grip 2 for a while & despite my best attempts, servicing , different settings etc also found it to be not that plush nor have the best small bump sensitivity. In my Fox38 i went to the standard GRIP damper & it is quite simply night & day. The small bump sensitivity is amazing. I've been running it for over 2 years now, still feels like new & I've ridden it all over the globe. As a lighter rider (70kg) the GRIP damper has been far better for me than the GRIP2. Hope this helps

The vvc grip 2 dampers have very little compression damping coming from the compression circuit. In certain ways, the rebound seems to be more impactful on compression damping amount then the compression damping system does. I find that I like the 36/38 vvc grip 2 dampers more when I am running them more and more open. They tend to start getting a bit harsh on high speed hits when you are running LSC/HSC less then -4 from closed... while at the same time, not having quite enough LSC damping for chassis control. I think this is why you see mixed...

@ebruner thank you for the explanation/science lesson! 🙂 That both explains and significantly complicates the whole thing at the same time 🙈 Basically it’s not as straightforward as I initially thought…

It doesn't quite work like that. The compression ratio of the positive chamber is based on a few things that are fixed (once teh fork is out of either and exists in the physical). In order to think it through, you need to start by considering the volume. The formula for the volume of the air chamber is V=pi*(radius ^2)*height For our usage, that is volume = pi * piston area squared * air spring travel distance. This formula is quadratic, meaning that small increases in the radius of the piston surface area, have significant impact to the overall volume...

Can someone please explain to me where the hole in my logic is: if you have a Lyrik or Pike and you add volume spacers, you reduce the positive air volume and increase the ramp up. Now with the new Boxxer they are saying that with the change from 35mm to 38mm and the extra travel, that the fork was ramping up too quick (which we saw with the Zebb as well), but surely the larger legs and increased travel equals larger positive chamber which equals less ramp up? So now they have gone to a smaller self contained positive...

it's the best "stock" air single crown fork I've had and I've been riding for nearly 30 years. I usually convert forks to coil but have not felt the need for this one. They are tempermental with pressures (say a 2-3psi window) and run LSR faster than recommended. Only real tricks.

he all but confirmed it will be coil on MTBR suspension forums, when someone asked what spring type it will be using, Darren said "Not really known for our air springs 😜"
