RIsse Racing in Oregon still services RP23s. They may be able to help you out. Their website looks like it's straight out of 1999, but they're legit.

Yeah Push haven't worked on other brands shocks in a very long time so I wouldn't try them again, its kind of a waste of yours and their time. The RP23 Boost valve is almost identical to the CTD boost valve so you should be able to get some useful info from the CTD docs - https://www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&id=77 I can tell you for one thing the CL tune has no bending shims on the compression side that would sit directly against the boost valve (100% boost valve for compression damping), and the check valves are usually just a couple of shims...

Agree, that's how it looks. I'm shocked when USAC or UCI talk about marketability, how to attract sponsors and how to make a show from racing. Racers are the customers and they are not asking to be used to promote private interests they are asking for fair, accessible, and fair racing without distortion of what the sport is supposed to be. I see the narrative of making a private series with few factory team like Supercross or Formula1 but the sport will die in 5 years if we cut the base from the head. On the other hand, I'm stocked...

Thanks I chatted with Push. As you prob know they stopped doing rebuilds except their own. That cust serv person said he didn’t have that info. I’ll be trying again tomorrow to get a diff person and see. I’m sure someone there could help. And I didn’t have traction info. Thanks again for that. Appreciate it

I would check with Push Industries who tuned RP23's for years, or Traction Works in Portland, Oregon. Traction Works specializes in rebuilding and tuning every suspension component under the sun. One of them could probably help you with diagrams or steer you in the right direction. At the very least, you could send them a picture of your shims laid...

Thanks. I have tried asking them. Super nice. They gave me the same info. I think their cust serv people are newer and just don’t have the years experience to answer this ? I did ask if they could ask around to see if anyone with more experience had that info. They would t do it. I’ve dealt with customers for almost 30 yrs now in my career, and they don’t ranks very high in my book. let me ask you your opinion. If I were to set these up based off other images I’ve seen with the same shock...

unfortunately fox's service guides only go back to 2014 and the old docs on RP23 were very vague. https://www.ridefox.com/fox_tech_center/owners_manuals/011/Content/Rear… reach out to fox and kindly ask if they can share the shim schematic?

Hello. Was wondering if anyone would be able to help or point me in the right direction I was servicing the entire fox shock and my wonderful, large dog decided to go redrum and knocked the table over, which had all the parts on. I’ve serviced it before, but the issue now is the boostvalve shim stack went flying. So shims are all out of place. Anyone have an image or can help with what order they go. It’s a Fox Float RP23 Boostvalve rear shock. It is tuned as follows. Rebound is XL, velocity is L and boostvalve is...

Sadly, I think for the world cup the management is hoping to weed out privateers. I think from the UCI and big sponsor's perspectives, the privateers are just clogging up the works without being helpful for their marketing. If they could cut the whole race series down to just 3-5 big teams I think they'd do it in a heartbeat.

Great write-up and it would be nice if more awareness was brought to the privateer life, there are tons of little things that could be done by promoters to significantly improve privateer life. Considering the hefty price of registration and license, it's not unreasonable to expect race venues to provide better accommodations to athletes. The goal for USAC or UCI is supposed to provide a fair playing field. Too often, promoters and institutions forget that athletes are not their products to monetize but their customers to serve..

Great write-up Andrew. My son raced world cups as a privateer for 3 years (2 years as a Junior and 1 as Elite) and your article resonated with me. My son traveled with a friend and his family to his first WC as a junior to race at Ft. William and of course blew up a wheel, so he spent the whole evening swapping rims and building his wheel. But as you mentioned in your article, the fact that you can travel to Europe to race a bike and experience other countries and cultures, is priceless. It's not easy for...

Actually, the 40+ is usually the fastest or the most challenging and stacked class. In the 30s people have to deal with jobs, young kids, or if they are fast enough they could still race pro. 40+ has plenty of old glories or dads committed to go fast, usually the 40+ have older kids or have managed to find time and money to go race.. It's often the largest cat 1 class. I have seen that in DH, Enduro, XC or gravel.

I was sort of bringing a guy up to speed on how the categories work, what to expect, etc. I felt mean saying: "Cat 1 19-29...they're usually the slowest Cat 1 class." He's like "Huh?" I thought for a sec & said: "Well, if you're not posting pro times by the time you're in Junior X, you're either new to the sport or you're not gonna be pro" Went on to say "But they will absolutely die trying!" Then I say "Cat 1 30+ is usually the fastest Cat 1 behind Junior X. It's all the pros or old timers...

Hysterical and great description of Cat 1 19-29 practice! I learned never to walk the track during expert practice. It was terrifying, guys in mint Troy Lee kits on pimp bikes crashing all over the place.

I can fully confirm the Junior X send/sketch strategy! That pole I marshalled at was just fine and dandy until that pimple faced train of anarchy came through. They all tested the limits of traction & huckability. Really regret not setting my GoPro up there. Side saddle down the f-ing rocks off into the woods. Launching to nose vert landers and riding it out. One HIT the tree at the base of the drop, grenaded, women screamed in horror & he just reassembled like a Transformer and ran his bike up the bank. Honestly worst class to watch was Cat...

That bike shown is just a 150mm light e bike they released today. It's just speculation that the new dh bike might have the same suspension layout. Hopefully the cover is hiding something a bit more interesting than that. Edit: if you want a good laugh, have a read of their marketing spiel: https://mondraker.com/nc/en/zero-suspension-system

Perhaps. The other end of the shock is attached to rear triangle instead of lower link, like their other bikes. That can only change the leverage ratio, not the wheel path, anti squat, or anti rise. Right? All of those things could be changed on the new version too, but fundamentally it's still a dual link bike. I'm not saying it's a trivial change, but it's not exactly massive or ground breaking. Seems hardly worth hiding with a cover? But the cover is probably half for marketing anyhow. I mean, with their sponsored racers practically openly hating on the prior...
