the times are crazy tight, so yeah "far back" but kinda not really. dante is only 1.5 sec off of 8th place. maples seems to be pretty consistent w/ his other finishes this year besides loudenvielle, again, 2 seconds would have made a big placement difference. luca is definitely the outlier though and super rough for grice : (

Fair enough. But all of them posting times outside top 30 on the same morning is wild.

A day late, but still entertaining. Vlog vids from Troy and Bernard on the first day of practice. (Dante crash @ 7:50 is wild, glad he's alright. Why the hell are there not pads on those trees?!?)

Great write-up and it would be nice if more awareness was brought to the privateer life, there are tons of little things that could be done by promoters to significantly improve privateer life. Considering the hefty price of registration and license, it's not unreasonable to expect race venues to provide better accommodations to athletes. The goal for USAC or UCI is supposed to provide a fair playing field. Too often, promoters and institutions forget that athletes are not their products to monetize but their customers to serve..

Great write-up Andrew. My son raced world cups as a privateer for 3 years (2 years as a Junior and 1 as Elite) and your article resonated with me. My son traveled with a friend and his family to his first WC as a junior to race at Ft. William and of course blew up a wheel, so he spent the whole evening swapping rims and building his wheel. But as you mentioned in your article, the fact that you can travel to Europe to race a bike and experience other countries and cultures, is priceless. It's not easy for...

@ark09050 Interesting... With the Snowshoe round of the WC not scheduled until the very end of September that could be a possibility. Could get our US racers more track time out there to help our showing at the WC, especially if Snowshoe is building a new track for the WC this year... Really thought we would hear something by the end of this week since XC Nationals venue has been taken care of.

22 February 2023, Upplands Väsby, Sweden: 2023 brings further developments in Öhlins’ ongoing commitment to MTB racing and the gravity scene, as they announce the continued support of their DH athletes and teams. Öhlins teams and riders had an exceptional 2022, with five-time Elite world champion Loic Bruni storming to victory at the elite men's race of UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets, France. This was followed by Canada's leading MTB downhill star and Junior World Cup winner, Finn Iles topping the podium in Canada's home track at Mont-Sainte-Anne, to claim his first elite World Cup victory. He...

I think that's the reason Trestle makes sense, because they can maintain regular operations while Gravity Nationals is happening. Angelfire would be a lot tougher. It was slammed just for the Team Trail Party race they had there with a huge lift line. Trails didn't feel that crowded, but the single lift is tough.

Mountain Creek or Winter Park are my picks since the drive from the airport is less than 2 hours, Angel Fire is more than 3 hours. Since we are in SoCal, Winter Park would be my first choice and I really like the resort. But I am sure that Winter Park is not my son's first choice since he has...

Too much to unpack bro, lol. I thought we were going to have a fun next week of speculating about venues, not diving into the inner workings of why USAC has failed DH racing Next prediction to add to the speculation... Mountain Creek Bike Park. Why not? Proven race venue from hosting USAC sanctioned nationals/GRTs, baller trail crew to whip up a DS track, plenty of trail/terrain for an Enduro.

What a disgrace!! Not only are we a long way from having an established domestic racing series to prepare our athletes for the world cup stage, but while the sport is at an all-time high in terms of participation (there were 40+ middle schoolers racing our local enduro! , the governing bodies and infrastructure to support competitive cycling are sorely lacking. I've been trying to get a response from USAC since October about Nationals, and while they started off answering me politely, they no longer bother replying. It's no wonder our top American athletes aren't showing up to compete in...

I can't wait for the USAC Gravity Nationals event venue announcement. It's almost as good as team rumors Lots of wheels still in motion, and from what I'm hearing it's still anyone guess as to where we will be racing for the DF stars and stripes jersey in 2023. At this point it would shock me if any of the popular speculative venues folks have been throwing around since Winter Park last year actually ends up hosting the race
