8/25/2025 10:32am I’d argue that might’ve worked effectively the first dozen times the bike industry did it, but not anymore. Unless what you’re hiding is truly unique, it actually does the opposite. People either see through it as a gimmick immediately, or are disappointed when the cover comes off and what is underneath is generic copied homework thus having the opposite effect just when the bike is actually about to go on sale.

8/25/2025 10:32am Not a rumor. They bought MI, dumped a bunch of capital into helping them develop V2 and then pulled the plug a year ago as a cost saving measure. It was a whole.... thing.

8/25/2025 10:26am Chatter on new designs releasing just makes people avoid buying the current models because they are waiting for the new ones to come out. The more they prolong releasing new bikes, the more other brands will scoop up that market share from the previous brand loyalists who didn't want to wait 6 years to buy their next enduro bike.

8/25/2025 10:26am Specialized has had more chatter in not releasing new Enduro and DH than they would have had in releasing them. Keep delaying them it keeps the chatter speculation going.

8/20/2025 9:30am Thread still coming in clutch in the waning hours of the 24 month period. Still two months to go though! Not surprised by NS Bikes. Maybe there were lots more in Europe, but I feel like there was a decent presence here in BC a couple years ago. They had a few hype bikes such as the collaboration with flybikeasia/carbonda 'downcountry' bike (Synonym) but then it seems like they totally fell by the wayside in the most recent reiteration of generations. Doesn't help that their Canadian distro shut down a little while ago either. Edit: Losing CRC as a distribution...

8/20/2025 8:31am I haven't tried it yet but somebody said if you use Ski as the sport on a Garmin watch, it auto pauses on any lifts, then you can change the sport to MTB when it loads into Strava.

8/19/2025 9:03am It's sad that as soon as SRAM purchased shockwiz they consigned it to abandonware. The tech was so cool and it certainly succeeded as a proof of concept, it's a shame the sole major update the platform ever got made it significantly worse for nerd users, which, let's be honest - that's who was actually going to buy the thing other than shops as a fun add-on to bike setup and demo programs. My one sentence review of the Shockwiz is "If the sticker on the back of your fork can get you 80% of the way to properly tuned...

8/19/2025 8:04am I'd bet it's SRAM no doubt putting their twist on another Vorsprung product (Secus) Why innovate when you can copy a small manufacturers homework.

8/19/2025 8:03am Shockwiz can be a bit shit, but it can also be quite good. I'm very surprised that it doesn't receive frequent firmware updates to improve the calculations. The irony of the current Shockwiz is that only people who are already interested, and thus might already have somewhat well adjusted suspension will have taken the time and spent the money to use it. Those people might also have developed preferences for non-algorithmically-optimal suspension. Most riders, if they even know that there are knobs on their shocks, have terribly set up suspension and no interest in spending time adjusting it or learning...

8/19/2025 8:00am I'm willing to bet whatever is in the rockshox hump is performance based rather than a shockwiz or similar. I asked a few Sram athletes and a couple industry industry insiders informally about it. Everyone remained tight lipped other than saying things like "it really works." I was told that riding the new rockshox stuff made riding their new fox podium less exciting

8/19/2025 7:57am Spotted a guy who was maybe 5’8” on a full suspension 32” xc bike today while out on a ride and he was absolutely hauling up and over the top of a choppy fireroad. While it seems pretty EPIC for that application, I think the shorter dimensions and steeper angles of short travel bikes are what allow it to work without the wheelbase getting unreasonably long. The bike certainly didn’t look massive, just the distance between the wheels looked a bit tighter. At 6’4” I’m not sure I’d want to maneuver anything much longer than my current XL enduro bike...

8/19/2025 7:56am I’m sure there will be niches where this wheel size makes sense. And yes, the industry loves a good “paradigm shift” to stir up interest and sales. But I’ll take the other side of this bet. This will stay niche...tall riders, Reggie Miller, certain XC setups, the hardtail-weirdo/bespoke crowd, and the peacocks showing off over $11 IPAs at the brewpub. Here’s why: Weight These wheels and tires will be meaningfully heavier than 29. Even with weight-weenie tricks, you’re adding 1–2 pounds for a DH-worthy rim, spokes, and tire. Even in XC, expect half a pound to a pound more of...

8/19/2025 7:55am Double posting because it's a different topic ish There was some test (maybe on YouTube?) done a while ago by a Pirelli sponsored rider who found that a ~40mm tire with a gravel suspension fork was faster than a larger tire (50mm+) without suspension for gravel events (I believe it was done for Unbound). It does make me wonder if a rigid 32" wheel would be faster than a suspended 29" wheel, but maybe if you could get away with a ~60mm travel fork on a 32" hardtail instead. Maybe the low speed compression could be stiffer with a larger...

8/18/2025 12:22pm I contend 32" wheels are no longer a rumor as they're a real thing in existence nor an innovation as it's nothing more than a bigger circle.

8/18/2025 12:22pm Air is becoming more and more of a rarity in moto. KTM/Husky/GG still use the "AER" (air) lineup of Xact forks in their motocross bikes but have moved their enduro bikes to coil. I don't follow the mx/sx stuff that much but I believe Tomac and Webb are on air right now (among others). I've run both air and coil, both can be made to work well (similar to a mountain bike). @Suns_PSD - I'm going to disagree with your hypothesis however. While there is an adiabatic compression effect with air under very high shaft speeds, this is something we...

8/18/2025 12:06pm Nice, I tried to capture a similar experience in Culver City: https://www.instagram.com/p/CrEbh-qtEcD/ My brother's advice to me was to "assume every driver is actively trying to kill you," and I try to live by that. Same idea as the Neil Stephenson quote above. Regarding forecasts, I'm surprised to see any forecast that shows bicycle sale volume (by units sold) going down in North America and Europe through 2030.I've gotten on my soapbox before in this thread, but I think the bike industry looks safe and healthy to me because of the global interest in re-investing in non-vehicular transportation. Lots of...

8/18/2025 12:03pm Reminds me of this quote from Neil Stephenson's "Zodiac" about riding in Boston: " I assume I’m wearing fluorescent clothes, and there’s a million-dollar bounty going to the first driver who manages to hit me. And I ride on this assumption."
