No Lycra here. All XC and downcountry all the time since I'm in the midwest of the US. Pedaling matters 100% of the time to me. It doesn't matter to you and that's cool. Most people on mountain bikes (not ebikes) do some amount of pedaling where they'd find themselves less happy if their experience pedaling were noticeable made worse. Remember, Vital's forum is where the most enthusiastic of the enthusiasts hang out. The MOST obsessed enthusiasts who are often pushing themselves and their gear to greater and greater heights in the pursuit of mountain bike progression and achievement are...

Question for the peanut gallery, inspired by this Nick Bentley pic from the other site- it seems like every Shimano team is running an Ochain on the old Saint M820/825 cranks, despite the fact that those cranks come from the factory with a very permanently installed 104 BCD spider. How do we think they're doing this? Do you think Shimano corporate is modifying the cranks for the teams, or are all the teams doing a garage bodge job like this?

I actually just sold my Range, and I guessed it probably felt pretty dead in the rear, Norco high pivots are not exactly playful. Especially if you haven't ridden a high pivot bike before. @Stewyeww if I rent a bike I have to include it in my trip budget lol. I have gotten along very well with V10's from evolution...

I'm planning a trip to whistler for next june, and looking at figuring out a park bike for while I'm there. I see cheap Norco Shore parks on PB frequently, anybody ever ridden one? I too would just buy another tues if I could find a good deal, the bike market is nuts.

I am going to be completely transparent here in that I work for FSA, but I will say I worked really hard on making the 31.8 40mm Gradient alloy bar one of the most compliant on the market. and here is the proof: (chart from PB article)

You should really try some carbon 31.8 bars, I too had Renthal fatbar carbons and then burgtec ride wide enduros, turns out a compliant bar basically erased my arm pump. I'd certainly try a 31.8 burgtec bar. Actual rumor time, LBS told me new SB160 frames are going to be very hard for shops to get their hands on, but...

The electronic suspension/high pivot/stand up and pedal convo is the dumbest thing to happen to tech rumors in a long time. Banal, illogical, myopic.

Yes, but I think other people in this thread have clearly explained why those efficiencies don't offer any unique benefits to high pivot, gearbox, or idler-based designs. Yes, electronics would make high pivot, gearbox, and idler-based bikes more efficient, but at the same time they'd be making all the other bikes more efficient, too. If Dave has four apples and Lisa has six apples, and you give them both four apples, Lisa still has more apples than Dave. Now, I guess if you're saying that electronic lockouts give them both the equivalent of 100 additional apples, then I would concede...
