Yeah pretty much. You have a baseline setting and its tweaked for each track, and since they race the tracks each year pretty much they know a very solid starting setup (obviously conditions change that). My point was more about how, from an engineering stand point Fox products use a lot more spring force for support than their competitors (Ohlins generally are the most damped products from stock, with Rockshox in the middle) But once you get used to a setup, you just run that. You do major swaps between season (notice how most riders stick to the same frame...

Rebuilds and service for sponsored riders are the reason most of the vendors are there. Fox, RS/Sram, DT Swiss, etc.

My understanding is that major tuning for both forks and shocks is done ahead of time with the teams and riders. This allows much more time for testing. That way riders are just making small changes to fine tune for each track. I don't think there is time for major changes at every WC race.

If you reset your pistons, pad retract is always relative to the braking surface so you have the same pad clearance regardless of rotor thickness. Increasing rotor thickness will only impact the clearance/dead stroke if you don’t reset the pistons, but over time as your pads wear it will work its way to the same spot.

I’d agree- dyno doesn’t always tell the full story. It’s an extremely useful tool but you must do blind ride testing as well. MTB suspension testing is incredibly difficult and frustrating from my experience.

I fixed it by getting a tuned damper. Now I can run more LSC for better stability / less dive without the sharpness on impacts. I think the grip 2 is probably fine for most people and the 2024 changes sound like they address the sharpness that happens when closing LSC on the previous year grip 2. That's what I...

Agreed, I can definitely feel a difference in the HSC settings on my 38. Too little and the front end will feel more knifey and oversteer in hard cornering. Too much HSC and the front end doesn't settle and kind of understeers in hard cornering/ heavy load situations. The point about rebound is moot IMO. My 38 even has the low rebound "traction tune" and I run it close to fully open. I have a factory 34 on a different bike, rebound is nearly fully open. I had a coil 40 on my old Glory, and I ran the rebound...

Companies across the cycling market from LBS, to component manufacturers, and all the way to bike companies will continue to go under throughout 2024 and likely into 2025 unless demand picks up in spring 2024. We have only started to see the beginning of the closures.

Increasing rotor mass increases thermal capacity, that works both for thicker and/ or larger diameter rotors. Generally this is a positive but taken to the extreme it can mean that the pads and rotors don't reach effective operating temperature. Think xc bike running 2.3mm thick 220 diameter rotors. For most people this isn't a problem. Thicker rotors will also feel...

Also lines up with the sales Fox has had running across most products, and the confirmation of an updated Grip 2 damper. The updates to the Grip 2 seem to address the biggest flaw. As you add compression damping the damper starts to spike and gets a harsh edge to impacts. I notice it, but I'm sensitive to it because...

I don't know anything about BK's background, but the guy does 3 jobs. Team owner, team manager, and pro rider (top 5 in the world). He deserves to reap the rewards because that requires a serious amount of hard work and dedication, and of course talent. Not to mention his sideline projects such as the clothing brand. Plus the guy is super likeable, clearly loves riding, and is refreshingly open and honest in interviews. It would be awesome to see him standing on top of that podium in 2024.

The one way I could see to run cables similar to headset routing without the drawbacks of going through the headset bearings would be to use oversized headset cups similar to those used for reach adjustment. Put the ports just behind the headset bearings but not through the headset. Routing wouldn't be any worse than "standard" internal routing, but the...

Sure thing, sorry I will try to figure out how to turn that messages option back on here. This is a great mobility flow routine for mountain biking, in the video he does it from a standing position, but I would suggest to start it from the traditional "downward dog" yoga pose after doing some foot pedals (to get the achilles and calves stretched out) then you go into the his stretching routine. I would repeat it like 2-3 times and keep it dynamic, static stretching doesn't really do much for you. https://youtube.com/shorts/VQqabRnOR1E?si=iQWCy0DUmMqBxD5G

Listening to The Ride companion podcast with Bernard Kerr one thing he mentioned stood out to me. Discovery/ESO don't understand mountain biking. He mentioned it focused on Enduro but it applies to DH as well. That's how we end up with the lack of story telling / buildup of excitement throughout practice, qualifying, semis, and finals. It's also how we...

BKs podcasts are so good as he just throws it out, $60k less budget compared to last year, riders keep the same salary and he takes the loss. And that sponsors are serious about reducing or even canceling enduro sponsorhip as there is simply no exposure from it. Also interesting bit about the Dyfi and how much that park does for the local comunity and that Dan has been elected as city council :D
