10/17/2024 3:12am Out of curiosity does anyone know if they have a legitimate reason for choosing a 39mm chassis over a 38 or 40mm one? Maybe we'll see some of this on direct to consumer OEM, semi-pro, and staff deal bikes for a bit. I'm certainly in the "never again" camp (I think my feelings about BOS may have come out in this thread once or twice already), but I'd hope my fellow consumer would wait a while before jumping into these, at least at- or close to the generally high MSRP with only the promise that BOS CARES about you because...

10/16/2024 9:18pm Mechanically speaking, nothing is gained with a 15mm axle over a 20mm. What we gained by going with the (mechanically inferior) 15mm axle is the rapid and widespread adoption of thru-axles across all mountain bikes, then road bikes, then gravel and CX bikes. If the axle choices in 2012 (or whenever) were viewed as a binary choice between lightweight XC-oriented QR axles and a heavy DH-oriented 20mm thru axle, I think it would have taken a lot longer for product managers to go out on a limb and spec better forks and axles. 15mm axles gave product managers needed cover...

10/16/2024 9:14pm Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that they're advertising them as available with a standard boost option.

10/16/2024 10:26am This is basically why V&R Racing exists. To help cover the travel costs for junior (women) WC racers. (We kept Taylor Ostgaard on for an extra year in Elite cuz she's just so frickin awesome.) We'd love to expand and help more racers, but for now, we'll stay focused and try to fill the need. We'd love to see more sponsors like us helping fill this gap. We'll throw a little teaser out since this is the rumors thread - our next sponsored rider races for Gravity Collective.

10/16/2024 9:13am Living in a country where we have to travel to ski/snowboard if I break it down to participation hours biking is way cheaper than winter sport holidays. I'd be budgeting £1000 per week for a trip to the Alps. I don't know about other countries, but neither I, nor the majority of my riding buddies are anywhere near what I would perceive as upper middle class, most of us are firmly working class and have the spending power of that level. Granted we are wealthy on a global scale, as are most people in the 1st world, but within the...

10/16/2024 9:09am could be the picture but the angle of the shock looks different. Definitely a different brake mount going on there. And the motor does look smaller. Also, the little knock block under the head tube isn’t there.

10/16/2024 9:08am That would be the 2025 Instinct SL according to another forum, is someone able to confirm if that's really the case ? Looks like it's just a smaller battery & retuned motor in the existing full power Instinct frame, nothing too exciting.

10/16/2024 1:25am Vojo magazine posted a few new things here and there, regarding last Roc d'Azur: Including a few Polygon """protos""" : And more interesting, the Beringer ebike (we already knew about their mtb brakes, wasn't aware of the frame development) which is made from cast aluminium. As an absolutely-not-engineer guy I like seeing these kind of attempts on frame material, but some may have another perspective I guess... (regardless of kinematics / geo)

10/16/2024 1:25am They'd better be able to pack good value into the builds, they paid for 4/5ths of the tooling and all the R&D years ago. This bike has been available since Fall 2019, yes, it remains excellent, no, consumers should not be paying a premium for it. Edit: the fact that the value of the Comp is actually pretty good is indeed surprising.

10/15/2024 1:59pm Somewhere in the last 20 years readers here lost track of the sport's trajectory. We are firmly in upper-middle class sporting territory. Being a young sport ( Performance MTB ) many of us came from various socioeconomic backgrounds to make it happen in the 90s but now that landscape is quite different. I would argue we almost surpassed skiing as the well-to-do hobby for people with money to spend.

10/15/2024 8:44am 'Lots of smart people out there' is a great point. Bikes are generally great these days but excel in slightly different use cases, or feel slightly different but the knowledge base seems to have exploded over the past few years and engineers are making the most out of the available platforms. Since bikes are getting so good at what they're designed for, I think demos/testing to develop and understand your subjective preference is becoming more relevant. I've recently rented/demoed a good chunk of modern trail and enduro bikes and it was sick to see what I got along with or...

10/15/2024 8:43am I prefer the Crab Link. It’s the future obviously. DW spins up designs all the time, and to me they all come across as a good marketing campaign to sell more design. Everything DW is always “better”, and DW is dogmatic that every new product is better than the Crab Link (Horst). Yawn. I like to believe that we’ve finally hit an era in biking where a good design isn’t limited to the patent you hold or the design you licensed. Lots of smart people out there.

10/15/2024 12:09am Exactly, it's pretty cringey that a bunch of grown-ass men are dragging this kid on the internet just because an anonymous rumor says his parents are kicking in some cash to give him a chance to chase his dream. The kid obviously has some talent and happens to have parents with higher than average means. How is this different than sending your kid to an elite ski academy? Reece on Gamux is exciting - gonna get that $100k!

10/13/2024 9:22pm According to Dave Weagle they changed the name because Santa Cruz couldn’t spec them on their team bikes with the EVIL logo. Have a listen to Nigel Page’s “Stay on Your Bike” podcast with him. It’s a good listen
