It was fun seeing the cowboys there at least. Frustration with the geographic location aside, it was a great event, the event workers and staff did a great job.

I watched the entire men's race yesterday. It was pretty fantastic. I hate to say it, because I love DH soooo much more than XC on a personal level, but XC is a more natural, and (please don't hate me) better, television product than DH. As for the race itself, I was really hoping to see Bjorn Riley push to the front in the last couple of laps, but he did serious work to finish as high as he did after his misfortune in XCC on Friday. It would have been amazing to see him get his first XCO win...

9/21/2026 1:04pm Word is that DV needs to get a grant from the state of UT to hold a World Cup to justify the expense. This may be more more likely in years to come with MIDA and the new base area... DV won't foot the bill to the UCI alone but the UCI has requested Alterra/DV hold an event

Hot take after consuming all of the US open stuff. They need a vet pro class at all of the races. Make it an exhibition or just for fun. With so many of the legends hanging out / managing teams, I just want to see Sam rip corners and Peaty power wheelie out of every berm. Talk about driving engagement.

10/30/2025 6:01pm What if the top 5 juniors from qualifying ran with the Elites? I get this from production standpoint. Holding a separate race is more expensive and, this year, it would have been great seeing the juniors run with the elites.

I think the absence of juniors or a lites class whether age based or entry based is a mistake. These guys are making a huge effort to make the sport more like formula one but formula one has formula 2 and supercross has the 250 class. If most downhill series can pull off 100 pro racers plus a full set of amateur categories these guys should be able to figure it out. Only good thing these guys have brought to the table is broadcasting juniors and now it’s gone. Par for the course with wbd.

Just listened to the 2yr anniversary pod of this post, so many crazy parallels to a PE backed industry I was in at the time you posted: carwash both retail and mfg/services (aka platform) sides are heavily leveraged bc of low interest rates, membership models grew retail millionaires everywhere in the US and a Bain study that said we have room for another 11K full tunnel washes across US alone (as opposed to rollovers or convenience stores)… it was all on fire…(I came in in 2022 to lead people and culture for NCS) our ability to create margins on the...

The problem is while Jobs was a visionary and had an uncanny ability to dissect consumer problems and develop solutions multiple steps ahead of anyone else, he still analyzed shifts in consumer behavior/needs and responded. The problem with most outdoor brands is that people rolling out playbooks they've had for decades with products that during their time have become largely commoditized and seek differentiation around "what they like" vs. what consumers want in response to products not getting more traction. I am speaking of the industry in general. There are plenty of brands and people who run their business way...

The biggest mistakes being made in the outdoor industry now are people making product/brand decisions based on people's personal opinion/preference vs. actual consumer feedback/data. There's an entire generation of brands that have been successful largely due to the growth of the industry where it's very hard to determine whether success was due to a good brand/product decision vs. just luck/right place right time.

Yep, overall titles being decided by qualifying points is lame. Give the riders uci (non series) points for qualifying so the riders are more valuable for team rankings.

10/4/2025 8:12pm If they are doing a Q1 and Q2 system, which I think works as much as it may be stressful at times, they should drop points in quali. There’s more than enough incentive for a good run and it makes the points focused on the finals which actually matter.

Thanks for the props fellas! Reece Wilson just told us that this track is more difficult than any track all year, even Les Gets in the mud because it’s so unpredictable. Rocks coming out all the time, and shadows look like rocks and rocks look like shadows. But the dirt is apparently absolutely mint.
