Yes, I hate Vail resorts too, but you've touched on about 1000 different topics with the pricing of the epic pass, and I think this is a case of prices needing to rise to match market demand. For instance, Spomer posted this excellent video journalism on the Epic Pass in March of this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bfD4NiiMfo&t=410s The cost of the epic pass has been way, away, way too low for years, which led to an absolute stampede on local resorts by out-of-towners during Covid whenever snow was good (or even okay). The Covid ski years were terrible in terms of traffic...

I think the ski discussion is really relevant for all the reasons you guys mentioned. We haven’t really looked into how well the “lift-served businesses” are actually performing, but I’ve always wondered about their economics. I’ve never done a deep dive, or even been to Whistler, (I know...) but in Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado, I’ve yet to visit a bike park that makes me think, “Yeah, these guys are printing money.” At best, most of them seem like breakeven operations, with Whistler possibly being the exception. Then again, maybe patrol + lifty + electricity isn't all that expensive so it...

Just listened to the 2yr anniversary pod of this post, so many crazy parallels to a PE backed industry I was in at the time you posted: carwash both retail and mfg/services (aka platform) sides are heavily leveraged bc of low interest rates, membership models grew retail millionaires everywhere in the US and a Bain study that said we have...

With the "semi-official" announcement of Guerilla Gravity shutting down on the other site today (yes, I know, Vital had it a month ago), the glut of inventory held throughout the industry, slowdown in sales and potential for consumers to be hitting the end of their "credit rope", will we see more companies in the industry hang it up for good? I've long been skeptical of just how many capital intensive, high risk, low growth companies exist in the "specialty cycling" industry. To add, the number of very intelligent people figuring out how to make two wheels go down (or up)...

I'm tired of Cathros childish schtick at this stage. He has always done great analysis but all those stupid cutaway segments just seem foolish and boring. The dude is 37 now. It's a bit pathetic but I guess he does whatever Pinkbike tells him to do He'd be great commentating on races as the current crew seem to have difficulty spotting which riders are on different lines

I like skiing a lot. I wish I lived somewhere near the mountains to have the possibility to ski more often.
