10/13/2025 2:50pm For once I have to agree wholeheartedly with Bizutch. Wheels are disposable for a team at this level. At certain races as a mechanic I built 15 wheels in a weekend for racers. Sometimes they were 1 run wheels, sometimes they lasted two days. But not one person on my team at a WC raced on the same wheels they practiced on...especially at MSA. Wheels are disposable goods at a WC level. dead wheels at a race mean absolutely nothing.

10/13/2025 2:32pm I could Google this instead of replying... (And driven by curiosity and impatience I probably will go down that rabbit hole) But frequency is also key for the bizarre twisty sport we love. Garmin made a big deal of their new MTB edge being 5 hz, and by all accounts it's remarkably accurate.. what do phones, prior Garmin head units and watches operate at? Would the app work better if start and finish lines end on straights with so it doesn't finish on a turn? Could define the length of straight either side of the finish line depending on the...

10/13/2025 9:32am This was trending on hackernews today, thought some people in this thread might find it interesting. The TL;DR is self driving really benefits from more precise GPS, so Researchers at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) built a system called SmartNav, which combines several GPS correction methods, phase-only positioning, PPP-RTK (Precise Point Positioning–Real-Time Kinematic), and Google’s new 3D-map corrections, to make standard, low-cost GPS receivers accurate to within ~10 cm 90 % of the time. My guess is we'll have precision down to ~1/10th of a meter in a few years, on consumer grade devices. https://norwegianscitechnews.com/2025/10/making-regular-gps-ultra-preci…

10/12/2025 12:24pm Honestly it looked like Loic had been crying on the gondola ride down. This has to be so hard for him, and an incredibly difficult decision not to drop in. He waited until the last minute because I am certain he really didn’t know if he would or would not drop in. He saw what Jackson did and said to himself, I cannot match that or get close. I have complete respect for him and he should be able to take all the time he needs to decide, including in the start hut. As for not going to the overall...

10/12/2025 8:20am Congrats to Jacko, Vali and all the Riders for a wonderful World Cup. I dont know if the powers that be ever read Vital - i do hope so, but in any case I'm gonna leave It out there: WBD and the UCI have to come up with some sort of symbol or sign for the Overall Winners to wear It on the sleeve, chest or elsdwhere

10/12/2025 6:30am I agree with many of you that it was quite strange that Loïc didn’t make it to the podium. “But”, the location of the gondola and podium are not close. He would have had to walk for a bit along the base of the mountain and then head up the hill to the podium through the crowd. It would have been very difficult for him seeing how he was walking in the above video.

10/12/2025 5:40am Scott Factory is definitely going to shop for riders. Coulanges being 17th overall and their only top 30 overall is not what such a factory team is looking for especially with a newly released DH bike.

10/12/2025 5:38am I get team specialized was keeping his injury hushed, but it would've been cool if the announcers or somebody knew he might not drop in. I totally respect not riding if the injury is too bad and it doesn't make sense, if he was up there a wave to the camera from the start hut before walking away might have...

10/12/2025 5:28am It’s clear some of you have never truly nuked yourself in crash. It can take hours for the severity and complete picture of what you hurt and how bad to set it. Couple that with adrenaline and elite level racing and you might not know for hours. As stuff progresses, it can become clear very quick that you need to get checked for something that might’ve seemed okay initially. Loic has never shown anything put respect and professionalism, I’m sure there was a reason for everything that transpired.

10/12/2025 5:25am Craziest final race. Asa with fastest time. Gracey’s crash was so scary one of the scariest I can remember . Was so glad to see her be able to make the podium. Vali in shorts and then partying he’s way down after the flat. She has changed my opinion over last few weeks. She always felt super business like but the putting up money for privateer and then rocking the shorts, and how she handled the flat tire and having fun all the way down showed me something I had not seen or expected. Cam not getting to have a...

10/11/2025 3:44pm It sounds like his leg was so goosed he couldn't even do a warm up, but was just up there to keep the pressure on Goldstone. It was a letdown having the defining moment of the season being some random guy in the start hut, but I don't really begrudge Bruni that. If I'd smoked my leg in practice on the most consequential day of the season, saw the other guy do an incredible run and knew there was nothing to ride for, I'd probably just dip out too. Trying to roll down MSA with an injured leg while being...

10/11/2025 3:39pm Asa Vermette wins by more than 4.5 seconds. He ends up 2nd overall, just 12 points behind Max Alran, who came back to take 4th in the race. Tyler Waite ends up 3rd overall. Wow, are there some talented young guys heading to Elite in 2026.

10/11/2025 7:32am I suppose, as has been mentioned, that a big difference between a ski lift and bike lift is that alpine snow sports (ski/snowboard downhill) are a captive audience, as in 99% of participants have to go to a resort/hill to participate. I would guess that maybe 10% of mountain bikers have ever been to a lift accessed park, and probably fewer still do so on a regular basis. According to some statista report, in 2024 there were >23 million ski/snowboarders in the US. In comparison, they have 9 million participants in mountain biking, which is defined as any cycling not...

10/10/2025 4:16pm I went shuttling finale with my ebike, mostly because it's my only bike at the moment, but also Finale have been incredibly smart to promote the "Guiding" culture where the value isn't just the uplift but having someone to help choose which trails to tide and show them to you. The numbers you guys are quoting for bike park access are just mind-blowing to us broke Europeans: all my local bike parks in France (Valberg, Roubion, Isola, smaller but still known parks with ~10 tracks each) cost €16 for the bike park and €30 for skiing. But I'm pretty sure...
