There was also another rider that snapped (or it broke or whatever) coming into a massive drop. It’s really not a stretch of the imagination that coming off a large drop with almost no control could result in some very serious injuries. All it takes is a little over the bars whoopsie and some spinal compression… even if you land two wheels first you can (and people have been this year in WC events) get unlucky and flip over on the rebound. That said i have no opinion on chains and there supposed durability or lack there of.

New Specialized Enduro will drop early summer of 2027. It will come specced with a genie zeb fork. It will have a Genie vivid air, that is mounted vertically directly in front of the seat tube. The rear layout will look similar to a 2012 era Demo 8, but with a link that comes around the seat tube to the top of the shock.

The original post said "possibly career ending crashes", they didn't say that two careers were ended by crashes this weekend. They're talking about Henry Kiefer's crash and Bode Burke's crash, and it's not too hard to imagine how crashing off those two drops could end in a double femur or spinal cord situation that you never fully recover from. I was talking to Bode after his Q1 crash and he thought both of his legs were going to break on impact. Definitely hard to ignore two SRAM XX DH drivetrain failures leading to very similar and terrifying crashes!

The safest best and easiest thing to do is stay on the marked course
This forum topic has 59 replies.
Inside the poles=good, outside the poles=bad It’s dead easy for everyone to understand, there’s no interpretation or nuance required and it’s the way it’s always been. If you can’t stay in the course, slow down till you can

I like it when the racers stay on the racecourse. Lachie’s run was phenomenal. Still, it didn’t fit within the confines of the event which 30 other riders agreed to.

Strong disagree. The rule is actually the same as it always was when there was tape: the tape was not the marker, it only mattered if you went around a pole. - caveat: I understand that having the tape makes it easier to know when you might have missed a pole Most sports have defined boundaries with hard rules. Ski racing is exactly the same as this: you miss a gate, you either hike back up the hill, or you take the DQ. American football: if you so much as touch the line, even if nobody is near you, you...

Ride inside the poles. They are the same for everyone. If there is one that is in an utterly stupid place, hopefully it gets realised early on in practise and gets moved. Its like a berm. Do you ride the main line through the braking bumps or do you try riding on the smooth top 2.4 inches and risk going over the top? Frankly I'm more impressed that the commisaires were actually watching the runs in such detail that they were able to pick this up within a few minutes. I'm more interersted in justice for Kiefer. Dropped from 6th...

It is kinda bogus that you get disqualified and get no points. Especially in the case of something like Lachie who had no idea he missed a pole, or when asa crashed real hard this year and probably had no idea which pole he missed and needed to hike back up to and got 0 points. Those 31 points he would have got for last place would be pretty huge rn. This happened to Finn toon I think if you finish the course you should at least get 30th place points. If multiple people miss poles give them all 30th...

If you are only going to get a 10 second penalty for leaving the track than what is to stop a rider at the Whistler track from straightlining down the grass and skipping the last wooded section? And comparing to F1 or SMX is not apples to apples. Those are lapped events were it can be sorted out easily by giving a place back not a race against the clock

I've got a few things that come to mind scrolling these pics, and I'm curious what others think - Is Shimano off the back because they aren't introducing wireless/electronic Saint when SRAM just launched XX DH AXS? I get that some peeps don't like electronics, but XX DH is the obvious comparison to make, and it seems like Shimano is setting themselves up to be at a disadvantage when you consider ease of setup, clean cockpit look. No clutch. Di2 XT/XTR have racked up a reputation for being loud and dropping chains at the chainring since they seem to cause...

A solid collection of unofficial Shimano brakes, derailleurs and shifters hanging off of Yeti and Scott bikes from the Whistler World Cup DH. The release has to be soon, right? Have to say, the foil tape covering logos is a nice touch. Seems brands are learning that sharpies can be photoshopped away and if the tape is too thin, embossed artwork can be sleuthed by Vital's nerdiest. photos by Rick Schubert

The drool level is off the charts with this one. Rick Schubert snagged some pics of this proto Chromag steel-front-triangle freeride beauty during the World Cup in Whistler. Simple, clean and quite the juxtaposition with the pairing of the garage-made welding vibe and high-tech wireless SRAM XX DH drivetrain.

Can confirm Megatower will not be updated, likely will stick around till they have no more units. The general thesis at SC is the ebikes will be 4 bar and the pedal bikes will stick to VPP (at least until PON decides they have to go open mold on all their frames). Yeti ST is being released this year as...

This part. It makes me feel like a moron for working so hard at all my shit-paying jobs. Must be nice to be wildly incompetent and get either no repercussion or... OR maybe a bonus. Just because.

Hopefully I'll do a quick substack on this one, because its really bad. LOL. Fox bought the company for $572M, financed with debt. Interest on the debt was roughly $107-115M per year. The unit was generating roughly $65-73M in EBTIDA per year. When you net everything out, Fox lost about $400M before counting capex and working capital. The only thing Fox retains in this deal are the losses. No IP sticks around, not that they'd want it anyway. Baseball has nothing to do with suspension. OUCH.
