Just purchased my first e-bike after all my ridding buddies made the switch to eebs over the past 2 years. By being the last holdout, I was able to ride the gamut of motor options (Shimano, Bosch, TQ) and I settled on a TQ bike (Yeti MTE). For me, full fat eebs felt awkward, clumsy and over powered on our tight singletrack. In the right situations, the power was addicting (fire road climbs) but for 90% of our rides it was total overkill. Zero chance of tariff refunds making their way to consumers. Although I have heard of class action suits being brought against Nintendo NA and Costco to try and force that. I'm STILL waiting on my refund from UPS for an illegally collected tariff (& associated brokerage fees) on a part I purchased last August prior to the de minimus exemption expiration - $180 tariff+fees on a $320 part, bought from Germany.

For those of us living in the land of freedumb who bought bikes or components with inflated pricing, when do we expect refund checks once the brands receive their checks from the treasury? /s (maybe those tariffs stand, it’s all very confusing)

First generation Avinox bikes were already a foot-throttle compared to everything else on the market. 1000w+ of output with less than 150w of input is no longer a mountain bike in any meaningful way. Doing a sustained 32km/hr up the Blackcomb access road shouldn't be possible without pro-Tour legs and lungs on you. These bikes are going to be an absolute menace on shared climb trails.

Yes, the vibe at Sea Otter was way, way more upbeat than the last three. Why? Marketing folks had new stuff to talk about, salespeople had the latest hype to sell (at full price), and product managers/engineers had new projects in the works. I'd honestly rather they gave me the option to pair with / display AXS gears on the Kiox 400 than give me 20 nm more torque. Their walled garden is worse than Apple.

The biggest downsides of MGU are cost and drag. Avinox/Amflow seem to be in a great position to overcome both of those problems. Their scale, rapid development process, subsidized Capex, and direct-to-customer model will all help keep costs down for the customer. On the drag side of the equation, 1500 watts and 800% assist means they have a few extra watts to burn compared to a human powered MGU or one of their ebike competitors. This, 800% assist is the problem. Not 150nm or 1500 watts. If Avinox had 150 & 1500 numbers like today but only the 400% assist of Bosch . I’d be a big fan. But at 800+% that’s just not something I think moved the industry forward. And certainly doesn’t help e-bikes or regular bikes for that matter gain access to trail systems not currently available to bikes or trail systems under consideration for allowing bikes (like here in Dgo)

So basically, the M2S puts out almost as much power at 43w of rider power as the CX5 puts out with 150w. That's lunacy. Foot throttle, as you said.

I think the biggest unique thing about Surrons and the like is that they are near silent. This is what lets kids get away with all kinds of shenanigans. Surron had a prominent presence at Sea Otter, and a number of kids were riding these e-motos (along with pit bikes) throughout the expo in ways that were disruptive and inconsiderate. I was replying in jest. I’m a tall guy at 6’2” so I really can’t stand slack seat angles on extra large bikes. Effective SA measurements on larger bikes are always random. If it’s too slack when you raise your seat, your body positioning gets put into a pretzel. One of my favorite bikes I used to own was terrible to climb, because the taller the seat the more my legs were put into a recumbent position.
