So a "buddy" of mine used to write reviews for MTB brands/apparel/components. He/they would not/hesitate/re-write negative reviews of things so as to help maintain the relationship they had with the companies they were dealing with. Sometimes, they just simply wouldnt publish a review for the product they were sent. Think back to the last time you read a overly negative review of a product. Now I get that most products are really good nowadays, and most reviews are written in a way to highlight the favourable aspects of a product, or to highlight that a certain product might not be...

I know you asked for help choosing between A or B, but have you tried C, D, E, F, G, H, or I? I haven't ridden A or B but I came here to say you should really think about C, D, E, F, G, H, or I.

Also, I hate to say it, but I think larger volume tyres roll faster, as shown in road and XC: https://www.schwalbetires.com/technology-faq/rolling-resistance/ I'm doing decent speed for a respectable rider, but not tyre ripping off the rim issues like WC pros, so maybe my requirements are different.

Does anyone really want to read my 42 years of mtbing stories? Or maybe you've been on a ride, bike or lift, with me and already heard them. I'll start with toe clips since that's what brought us all together here. And since google couldn't find a photo of a Rivat cyclocross shoe I will have to post one of the few old photos I could find of myself wearing the shoes. Back story for the photo, this may have been 84ish, Pearl Izumi photo shoot. After this photo I told the photographer about the "jumps" behind our house and...

Does anyone have insight on additional financial support for all these teams switching to belt drives? It doesn't seem like the low (and further decreasing) probability of winning a mere $100,000 would move the needle any meaningful amount. The most plausible reasons would be additional sponsorship funds from the belt associated brands or hoping to take advantage of the seemingly disproportionate publicity about the $100,000 prize. Additional sponsorship seems most likely, wondering if that's documented anywhere.

Wish they'd do the AeffectR in the 160s too. I've had the 165s on the pedal bike for several years now and they are the best price per weight per tough cranks I've owned.

DH bikes are usually loss leaders (more accurately a marketing tool) for a brand once dev costs are factored in. “Flop” needs a lot more context in this case.

This is Atherton's brand new HQ in Wales. Do you know how much a brand new purpose building like this costs? Lots of ££££££, before you pay dollar one on staff costs. Whenever I see big cool new shiny corporate HQ's in bike world, I think the companies think it's supposed to impress me, but it just worries me. A lot of the Bellingham companies got shiny new offices in high rent areas in the last 5-10 years and each of them took my breath away in a not-so-great way.

It would be pretty hard to adapt to the direct mount/UDH standard without getting uncomfortably close to SRAM's patented designs. You may prevail, but can you afford the legal cost and time to find out for such a low volume product? I have a set of design sketches I worked up somewhat peripheral to this idea (being deliberately vague, here)...

There are many current and recently ex-employees from Rocky, and almost all of them had no bearing on the current financial outcome of the company.

Long time lurker but joined just to contribute to this fantastic discussion (loved the podcast as well) Whilst "Just in time" makes sense from a cashflow perspective it surely only really works if your whole supply chain is setup that way. Otherwise you're going to have a ton of forks, drivetrain etc in inventory anyway to fulfill the final builds.

Given that it was probably SRAM's lawyers that were responsible for 5dev discontinuing the udh mod kit, ordering the biggie kit sooner rather than later is probably a good plan if you think you might want one.
