5/9/2025 10:57pm You'd think "Video of Sam Hill on a Motorcycle" would be amazing, but somehow that thing made one of the greatest riders of all time look positively underwhelming. And I have nothing against ebikes. Oh well, get your bag Sam. You earned it.

5/9/2025 10:54pm I love Sam's riding but didn't need a couple minutes in the middle of him riding down a road failing to pop manuals. They possibly could have toned down the BWEEEEEeeeeeeeEEEEE eeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE

5/9/2025 3:16pm I'm still part of the Rocky Mountain team, so no immediate impact for me, for now. Thanks for asking! Still a lot of unknowns right now, which is normal considering the whole restructuring and change of ownership. I'll learn more next week and in the following ones. For warranty parts, my understanding is that it'll be a shift towards a more industry standard process of having prepainted parts in stock. Like you said, it had it's pros and cons.

5/9/2025 1:41pm A bit more information available on Bikes.com: https://bikes.com/en-ca/pages/new-acquisition-faq Headquarters are indeed staying out East, but moving from Saint-Georges to the Montreal area. Here's also a bit more information regarding the group of 4 new owners: https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/a-new-era-for-rocky-mountain-a…

5/9/2025 1:41pm Any impact for you buddy? I heard Montreal is nice this time of year. Is painting of warranty parts going to be handled in-house still or do you think there's going to be a shift to the industry standard of just ordering a whole bunch of pre-painted parts? It'd be too bad if that program went away but it certainly...

5/9/2025 12:09pm Can anyone with more info translate this news? Who is Chaos and do we think they’ll do a good job for Rocky as a brand? Vultures or not? I also assume this means Rocky headquarters will stay in the east.

5/9/2025 11:30am Well, they'd have to re-hire (most) of the west coast team first, which... hopefully they will/already have extended offers. It was a really good team.

5/9/2025 9:50am In fairness, information on a lot of this stuff is weapons-grade unobtanium in the western world. Even on a forum dedicated to sharing information and building up direct to consumer Chinese bikes, which has sniffed out a number of these from various platforms prior to the trade show, real information has been extremely scarce. I don't think Weibo chats and...

5/9/2025 9:46am May be, just may be, I’ve already tried to search and if we don’t count Extension Bikes, who have almost all the info regarding their new enduro bike uploaded on their website, all the others don’t have websites or share no additional details in their Instagrams. Think Wissco can be found on some sort of a website, but it’s all in Chinese with no translate option, so it’s as if there’s no website. Seemed only logical to ask the people that were there physically to share something more!
Given that some prices are shared under the photos here, while...

5/8/2025 10:32am Realistically, they aren't. You can already order a ton of competent bikes directly from the likes of Carbonda for excellent prices, but by the time you, as a consumer, build everything up, you often don't really end up that far ahead. There's a community that likes to play around with this stuff but pure financial reasons shouldn't be the motivation...

5/8/2025 9:25am Copying the 5Dev cranks tells you everything you need to know about a company. All they care about is looks. The originals are a horrible engineering design. They should have copied Came Creek EEwings. But that would require some skilled welders and not just feeding a CNC machine. Innovation would be using ultra high strength steel from the automotive industry and make a tubular crank that uses the same axles as RF, Cannondale , FSA and all the others that use that same axle.

5/8/2025 9:21am If it helps, there's a bunch of 5dev knockoff cranks on aliexpress and various reviews around the internet has revealed they are absolutely death traps. I wonder if Lewis is doing anything different or just picking up a company to run em'. If the 5dev ones are already kinda bad, wait til the knockoff hits trails in some capacity.

5/8/2025 9:19am Fuck those cranks. There's SUCH a good structural reason why holes in cranks are a bad idea, with the exception of the sram cranks. The reason that all those 5dev cranks break despite not being very lightweight is 100 level shit, and I hate that the mtb industry is stupid enough to entertain it. A 2 dimensional truss structure is fucking terrible in torsion, and most of the crank arm sees a LOT of torsion. Then you've got all the stress concentrations with all the internal corners, and that multiplies your max stresses by a lot again. The reason why...

5/6/2025 9:18pm I agree. That sentence is bizarre. I'm weirded out by the implication that choosing a longer or shorter chainstay length would be a compromise, but somehow choosing a 438mm chainstay length isn't a compromise? Every geometry decision you make on a bike represents a compromise. They're all trade-offs. Either that, or Canyon and friends have stumbled upon the Platonic ideal of the form "chainstay length." We're all in the cave over here, but at Canyon they've unshackled and transcended bodily existence to discovered the one true form of bike geometry. So meta of them.
