I think we may have to admit some possibilities about the group on this thread. Either: 1. We are all no longer well connected enough to score inside info. 2. The industry is in a slump and not developing product at the same speed as the previous few years Considering the lack of new product that came out of crank works I would suggest the latter but who knows. Until we get some new rumors we can either talk tech or make rumors up. Speaking of which I have one to start: Norco bikes have a relatively low resale value...

please enlighten me what‘s so hard in discussing those topics in a dedicated thread which i‘m sure will be greatly frequented? damping vs. springrate vs. leverage ratio isn‘t news at all. i (and i guess most) come here for news and rumors about new tech and don‘t want to scroll through pages full of tech talk that isn‘t rumors!

I think an orifice damper is just that, an orifice damper. The needle adds another layer of complexity. The catch is that different orifice arrangements will cause different damping characteristics - having the same overall void cross section, but in many small holes as opposed to few large holes will change the way the oil flows through them because of the viscosity of oil (compared to something like water, but water will be affected too obviously) and the resulting difference in flow regime (laminar, turbulent, etc.). This is why I don't talk to people at trailheads... they would think I'm part of some strange cult. Interestingly, as far as the response with the most consistent change in damping as felt at the wheel over travel, a slightly concave leverage curve is closer to a line. This is because damping as felt at the wheel is inversely proportional to leverage ratio squared. Example below

I don't find it perplexing at all that a more progressive design uses more travel for the same impact. The point of having progression is that it's softer at the beginning to absorb repeated small and medium impacts, but still retains bottom-out resistance. "Softer" means it uses more suspension travel for the same impact compared to a more linear design. The RM Altitude is designed for janky riding where there are a lot of small, unpredictable impacts that sap speed. Think places like BC, the northeast US, and lots of Europe. Riding in such terrain requires suspension to quickly react...

https://enduro-mtb.com/en/schwalbe-albert-mtb-tire-test/ new tyre out in the wild, looks promising, i'd be curious on how tall the side knobs are, the Tacky Chan ones are taller than the Mary, and this one looks lower than both, although at the same time seems like the kind of tyre i'd like to have up front paired with a Tacky perhaps

Having run plenty of demo days I'd say it's about 30% just having a go on an expensive bike for free, 20% just telling you what is wrong with the bike, 20% "just confirming that my bike IS better", 20% "I'm thinking of replacing my 2011 bike in the next 3-5 years" , 9% having one of the bikes on a shortlist but "I'm going to buy whatever I get the best deal on" and 1% actually going on to buy something from the demo. A couple a year was more than enough to never want to do it again.
