I guess you wouldn't make too much noise about it, feels a bit like announcing you upgraded your dial up internet to fibre in 2024. Did they have a reason for the old air can design persisting so long?

So they had a gravel trap on the test track for this very reason, I was able to test on paved road and gravel, worked equally well in both situations. I had to do a few runs on the gravel as I didn't trust the ABS, once I had the confidence to brake really hard it was faultless. Obviously flat ground is not representative of real world trail use, so would be keen to use it in anger on some proper trails.

Without defining the nature of an impact, force measurements would be required to know which transmits the most force to the rider. Now if you say the impact in question is a series of roots that are 50 mm tall, then it is accurate to say that the closer the deflection is to 50 mm then the lower the amount of force transmitted to the rider. Assuming it’s in phase with the roots of course. The graph in question here seems to show an extremely small root or something similar. An example of where you need to know force is...

They printed 60 twice on the Y-axis (LOL) so I think that is supposed to be 50mm or 34% which is slightly more realistic. Still, that is a spectacularly pointless plot. It shows the wheel uses more travel at much higher peak speeds but doesn't say anything about the load at the wheel or force transmitted to the frame.

I was going to say reference spoke tape or maybe colors based on what spoke gauge/tension if there’s multiple wheel sets.

One of the mechanics was rebuilding his wheel using the park tool video where they tell you to put the tape on as a "reference spoke".

Playing devils advocate here but isnt this problem solved with 1. progressive leverage curves 2. Shock ramp-up via volume spacers 3. HBO damping circuits 4. The severity of a harsh bottom out is way to exaggerated I'm not saying the stumpy is a bad bike, but "solving" bottom outs really isn't that important IMO.

Thanks for asking! It would be hard to say much positive about a single part on this bike (maybe a Chromag pedal fan gives the Scarabs a pass); the shock is laughable, and you can tick parts off finding every one less good than what's offered today. But as a whole it worked surprisingly well and I loved it. If I have an insight here (and I'm not sure I do), it's that bikes I've ridden since then have phenomenal sell sheets and each individual component has a great marketing story, a history of winning, a legion of online fans...

Let's not forget the fact Fox's Neo ecosystem is just around the corner. That includes a wireless dropper, shock and most likely a fork damper too. This Stumpjumper will be the perfect poster child for that system.

It's fascinating to guess at what Spesh was thinking with the Stumpjumper. I think the key is to remember that, at the end of the day, bike companies (especially large bike companies) exist to make money, not make bikes for the people that hang out on bike forums. Riffing off the Toyota Tacoma/4runner analogy and making up numbers, 95% of those vehicles are pavement princesses. People buy them and use them for pavement and highway driving, but they don't actually perform very well at that. Similarly, 95% of the people that buy a carbon Stumpjumper never ride it anywhere close...
