Another area that can help the ride feel that I think is really over looked is spoke diameter and tension. But the biggest area for improvement in my opinion that is needed is frame compliance, everything is a bandaid fix for stiff chassis. Personally I’ve never rode a bike with a front end that is too soft, rear end yes.

Carbon wheels have come a long way and wayyy over built when they first came on the market. Check out this from Enve new rims and Crank Bros, things are definitely going in a better direction for consumers.

Arguably, many traditional rightside-up forks could benefit from more torsional flex, which is why the 15mm vs. 20mm axle argument never seemed like the end of the world. Traditional forks suffer from excessive fore/aft flex compared to their upside-down brethren, but traditional forks have torsional rigidity to spare. Fox famously engineered more torsional flex into the chassis in 2014 when they released the air-sprung 40, based on their pro rider feedback. If their World Cup pro's need more torsional flex, to me that says something.

Ohlins used to do this on the RXF 36 back in 2017-2018. I'm running one right now with the m.2 lowers and internals. They even included the crown race into the shape of the steer tube. Literally zero flex points for it to creak. It was brilliant in my opinion but too many people complained that they couldn't run their headset of choice.

Frame stiff but maybe the chainstay compliant, wheels compliant radially yet stiff laterally. Stem stiff, bars compliant but then only in one plane if you line up very faded little marks. Seat post stiff, but compliant seat. Fork stiff fore-aft, yet compliant in some other direction for better tracking. Hub should have instant engagement, except while rolling at which time they should have decidedly poor engagement. That should do it, the perfect bike if you will (wheel?). Oh yah, add compliant radial tires.

Personally I feel that most frames are overbuilt and too rigid for the average rider. After watching in person the pros at MSA, it’s clear that the forces they are putting into the bike are absolutely unreal. So a frame to a top 30 rider I can understand why they get to that stiffness level to give them the support they need. I’m a believer in that we should have a consumer spec and race spec. Right now, the Commencal Supreme V5, Frameworks and Atherton are riding the fine line of what feels good to a consumer yet can deliver...

Vojo magazine posted a few new things here and there, regarding last Roc d'Azur: Including a few Polygon """protos""" : And more interesting, the Beringer ebike (we already knew about their mtb brakes, wasn't aware of the frame development) which is made from cast aluminium. As an absolutely-not-engineer guy I like seeing these kind of attempts on frame material, but some may have another perspective I guess... (regardless of kinematics / geo)

They'd better be able to pack good value into the builds, they paid for 4/5ths of the tooling and all the R&D years ago. This bike has been available since Fall 2019, yes, it remains excellent, no, consumers should not be paying a premium for it. Edit: the fact that the value of the Comp is actually pretty good is indeed surprising.

You can get that info from rate curve graphs. It shows the starting rate. The smaller the number, in terms of rate so say .333, the less force required to activate the suspension. If you're reading a ratio graph, then it's the larger the number, like 3 which is the inverse of the above. That only tells part of the story though because force at rear wheel graphs are a more complete picture for suspension activation because that includes the shock's spring rate. This still excludes the behavior exhibited by the shock tune. Overall progression percentage can be calculated by...

With suspension kinematics converging in the Crab Quadrant, I'm surprised that companies aren't touting minimum brakeaway force figures. Force to get everything moving, lateral rigidity, and overall progression would give me a better idea of how a bike really feels vs a bunch of graphs-IMO. Of course you can get more info from all those graphs, but they don't seem super useful at a glance to most people IMO.

That has come up before, I think in an interview with Atherton? He looks at additional proprietary measure(s) that he developed and not just AS/AR/LR when he designs the system. But the brands won't say what they are. My immediate thought was that if there's this extra property that you think is beneficial to the owner, but you're not allowed to tell the owner what it is beyond some extremely vague implications about its existence, why should the prospective owner be remotely interested?

Ppl should give them a Second Chance. I mean Sometimes PPL do fail. But what If they get the customer Service right this time? I think Performance wise Bos was Always at the top! And If You think about RS and Fox they are also Not perfect.I think its great to have more Options on the Market. And If Toyota choose Bos to Develop and build Suspension for WRC that means they have a lot of knowledge. Good News at least for me because i plan to build a new Bike😁
