I'm completely against flipping start order for any petty overall series interest. Times are so stupidly tight now that 30th can win. It's a FALSE stacking of riders in hopes of building a fictitious momentum. The courses get better sometimes for the last few racers. Sometimes it gets worse for the last few racers. Fractions of seconds spaced out over a 1, 2, 3 hour time span in variable weather & lighting conditions. All splitting hairs in the final. The days of dictating a countdown to fastest run are over. Please stop trying to manufacture a good time I'm capable...

No ageism in here! I'm 40, and the bike I ride most is my Singlespeed. So I, in fact, do stand while climbing, a lot.

Another great podcast. Anyone else here happy about J. Schroeder's increased prominence at Vital? It's nice to think that Spomer has some good support from a smart, conscientious second. Just wanted to give that guy (Schroeder) some props. As they say in Tennessee: " 'preciate you". Thanks all, for feeding the MTB content beast.

I’ve also got a +4 ape index, 36 inch inseam, masssssifff quads and chiseled jawline. All of which brings me to the most annoying dumb bike problem of all time. You ever hit your knees on the bars of a mountain bike while your trying to win a tech climbing contest with some local legend you shouldn’t even be riding with? 535 reach was a godsend for that. And with stacks still XC low, being able to still benefit from the reach in with a high rise bar was a double win. I love riding mitosis bikes hard. I’m a...

Hottake, The new Q1 and Q2 formats are great and I much prefer it over rider protected status as its probably the most fair way to narrow the field down. Does it mean some really popular riders lose out? Yep. Does it also mean that seasonal consistency is more rewarded in WC overall standing points? Also yes. Seems odd to have both protected riders AND riders trying to qualify all in one group. It's either we lock the field to the same 30 riders for each race or everyone needs to qualify for finals. No offense to riders like Danny...

Great question. To your point, I think the cannibalism is worse than that, because instead of wanting multiple pedal bikes for different sorts of pedal days with granular differences between each model, one ebike is pretty much fine for everything. In the past, as a MTB pedaler, I would have loved to have at least three mountain bikes: a long travel enduro bike, a shorter travel trail bike, and maybe a hardtail or XC bike. Maybe more. If I wanted to give up on pedaling and get an ebike instead, I don't need two ebikes. For ebikers who want to...

I have no issue with software teams using "agile" in whatever the original context was. I have issues with what it became in the corporate world. Over my year long in-house counsel contract, I think I attended 4-5 mandatory "agile" training seminars, and it featured heavily at our multi-day retreat. To this day I'm not really sure what it means, except that the "agile coaches" sound like new-age grifters when given a microphone in front of a crowd of people that are mandated to be there. Worse yet was inevitably after one of these seminar things, I'd be on a...

Think of a fully rigid bike. In your mind's eye, picture the bike like a pendulum that pivots on the contact patch. Bike & body separation allows the bike to move, follow terrain and trail contours. From my perspective, that riding style is important since it allows your body to follow a smooth path while the bike moves and stays in contact with the track. In moto, we call that being loose on the bike. When the track is really rough and/or muddy, it is important to stay loose in some sections. Typically the consequence of not being loose in...

Surely not every bike fits everyone, but I do think people freak out over mere millemeters when the fact is - you can get used to just about anything. Its just fucking bikes. I've got an XL GT Fury with 515 reach & 70mm bars: best DH bike I've ever had in 20+ years... a 2019 YT capra with 480 reach and 50mm bars: super fun, still going strong. A size L 2023 Marin Alpine with 490 reach and 35mm...no 50mm... no 80mm bars. Super fun. I move around on these bikes, jump them all mercilessly and continue to get...

If you haven’t already, check out Vital’s latest PIT BITS for a quick overview of Reece’s particular setup. While there is a lot of interesting tech on Reece’s bike, one defining feature is the prototype raised reversed stem manufactured by Be More Bikes. Reece combines this stem with high rise bars to create a tall stack with reduced reach. This allows Reece to extend at the hips more, creating a tall, upright riding posture. However, doing this causes his center of mass to shift backward, disrupting the front-to-rear weight balance on the wheels. To counteract this and redistribute weight back...

a response i left in the south korea thread when someone mentioned that despite possibility of a lot of line choices, south korea is a one-line track. thoughts? option 1: it's one line b/c the bulk of the loose debris was not removed/rake before practice making alternative lines virtually impossible as the piles of said debris littered the surface outside of the main racing line. option 2: they always pick the fastest way down the mountain and multi-line tracks aren't actually a viable reality except for a random move or two.

So we should've been heading for the airport this afternoon. Unfortunately we've had to cancel the trip at the 11th hour due to an unforeseen medical issue. Absolutely gutted. We were really loking forward to this one. With it being the 1st ever race and the cultural side of things I think it would've been a special one. Hopefully my health will improve sufficiently to get out to one of the European rounds. This thread has been a mine of useful information, thanks for all who contributed and happy travels to all attending. Maybe see you at the next one.šŸ¤žšŸ‘
