7/5/2022 11:15am Manufacturers are doing every single thing under their power to deceive the authorities and hide electric motors in plain sight so they can just sell the living shit out of them and the forests will be covered in motorized vehicles hiding in plain sight. If they weren't trying to be shady as fokk about hiding moped motors, they'd all making them bling/bling shiny like a Pro Circuit aftermarket pipe on a motocross bike. But they're all trying to hide them. Maybe a law needs to come down the pipes that anything sold in the US as an e-bike must have...

BergMann Liked a comment about Feature Vital MTB Test Sessions - Short Travel Bikes
7/4/2022 12:17pm Sorry, but with a spread between bikes of 5lbs, $4000, 40mm travel, Recons vs Minions, & piggyback vs straight shocks, this isn't even a remotely cohesive test field. If this hodgepodge is all you could swing in this supply-chain-challenged time, fine, but please don't pretend you're testing a single class of bike. Weights, costs, & travel need to be far more focused, & all bikes shod in identical test tires to properly level the playing field.

Maybe the feel from the stock kinematic is more important than travel?

4/11/2022 8:47pm Glad to hear the Rock Shox manuals are good and being used. There's a big team that puts a lot of effort into them.

4/11/2022 8:47pm Huge thanks to that team, I appreciate them. My Jr. Techs however, hate me for using them lol. Every shock or fork they touch, they need to have a tablet with the appropriate manual open and take it step by step so they don't miss a thing. To easy to get comfortable doing them and miss something small on a slight different shock when you're doing them regularly. On the customer side it's a huge advantage to say "Yes, I can have this shock done for you in 2 hours and save your road trip you've been planning for 6...

JCL Added a reply to 2014/2017/2021 Specialized Demo Alloy how do they each compare - looking to buy my first downhill bike.
3/27/2022 10:52pm The weight distribution of the older bikes is terrible. Very short rear centres.

3/27/2022 9:47pm Interestingly, if you watch the footage of Finn and Loic’s runs, Loic’s bike isn’t as stable pitch wise as Finn’s. Of course it could be spring rate and damping rather that kinematics, but you can definitely see the rear suspension choking on larger hits. You can see the same with Loris and Reece’s bike. The latter looking more balanced over...

JCL Added a reply to No Vaccine, No Lourdes World Cup for Racers?
1/25/2022 3:19pm Of course they don’t reduce transmission, even the CDC has admitted that. Look how fast Omicron spread around world via vaccinated travellers. Reduce mortality? What evidence is there for that? And in what age group? Pfizer’s own trial of 42,000 showed barely any absolute reduction in mortality. There may slight evidence that they do in the in the elderly, if...
JCL Added a reply to No Vaccine, No Lourdes World Cup for Racers?
1/25/2022 1:04pm Well I just read through the whole thread and I’m disappointed how many are following the clearly unscientific narrative. I mean, don’t basic questions like what is the point of travel mandates if the vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission? Or what is the evidence for vaccinating children who are at statistically zero risk from the virus? And that was Delta, not...
JCL Added a comment about press release DATUM by DIGIT BIKES, featuring ANALOG suspension
9/30/2021 12:53pm Great. I was just commenting that the concentric BB pivot would be more of a barrier than the proprietary shock. I’ll give your blog post a read. It’s a interesting concept nonetheless. I love that you’re prioritizing weight. Many of us are sick of riding 30lb bikes regardless of travel.

9/29/2021 10:38pm Well suck was maybe a little harsh. I’ve never owned a bike with one, just worked on them. It’s the friction from the large seals, the service hassle, contamination potential, narrow distance between bearings. You’ve likely optimized it but it would still make more hesitant to purchase the bike than the proprietary shock.

JCL Added a comment about feature Wheel To Wheel Comparison - Reserve's 30|SL VS Roval's Control Carbon
9/27/2021 9:57pm I have three sets of Roval Carbon wheels, although not this particular model. I choose them due to the lateral compliance as I’m 67kg and find a lot of carbon wheels too stiff. I think the compliance mostly comes from the straight spokes and lack of spoke contact at crossover. J-bends are, especially DT, are very firmly secured at the hub. If you’re a bigger guy maybe go with the SC wheels but then there’s a Roval wheel with J-bends etc that are heavier but apparently stiffer than anything. These wheels are one of those things that, love or hate...

9/27/2021 9:44pm I really like the majority of the concept apart from the BB concentric main pivot. They always suck.

JCL Added a comment about feature Eddie Masters Thinks the UCI Is Suffocating Downhill Racing
10/27/2020 10:04pm I have no idea about the UCI but I totally agree regarding tear-offs. I was watching worlds with my 6 year old and she spotted a rider chucking one and asked her usual “why?” question. I didn’t really know what to say so I just said someone comes and cleans them up after (likely bullshit).
