Between The Tape Liked a forum topic E-bikes make you f*tter? Training with an eMTB
11/2/2025 5:13am The assertion that e-bikes decrease fitness is widespread. On the surface, the reasoning appears sound: riders often feel like they have expended more energy after a normal ride compared to an e-bike ride. Therefore, normal bikes must provide superior fitness benefits, right? Not quite. This surface-level analysis misses several crucial insights about how fitness actually works. Let's start with a simple fact: work done is work done, regardless of the bicycle beneath you. If you maintain the same effort level on an e-bike as you would on a traditional bike, you'll simply travel farther in the same time. In this...

10/26/2025 2:52pm People have been astroturfed into believing LLMs can do things they can't possibly do. There isn't going to be some utopia that exists in a post-AI world because AI simply can't do that much and there isn't a post-AI world where AI does everything. Yes, it's improving, but there is still a hard ceiling of what it is able to do and that ceiling is not going anywhere, nor are the numerous issues they face. In some industries, the product created by AI is OK and acceptable, think marketing for instance. Large scale data analytics is another one. These things...

10/20/2025 11:49pm Respectfully, it's more accurate to say " Pro tip, your super enduro will absolutely be acceptable for DH trails." No matter how good long travel single crown bikes are these days, there's still no replacement for displacement.

10/20/2025 4:57am Results and report: ------------------------------- Are you not entertained? It’s a question the Roman gladiators might have asked their audience in the arena, and it’s also a question we ask ourselves every year as Rampage comes around. Unlike any other event on the planet, Rampage always walks a fine line between catastrophe and showbusiness, with the stakes getting ever higher as the athletes push to progress the sport from year to year. The 2025 edition saw a lot of progress, and unfortunately, a high price was demanded in return. As we write these lines, we do not know the nature of...

9/29/2025 8:43am Some food for thought… let’s assume each leg is a cylindrical joint where it can slide linearly and rotate around the axis of said cylinder. A cylindrical joint on its own is equivalent to four points of contact. Six points of contact fully define the position of something in space. Two cylindrical joints is eight points of contact. Both right side up and upside down forks are technically over constrained and rely on flex and/or bushing clearance to move smoothly. In the world of aligning linear rails with bearing cars, you pretty much always have to float in at least...

8/28/2025 12:16am I'm sure Marc is vastly more intelligent than myself, but he's also a malignant narcissist whose vision of the of the future is terrifying if you dig into it. He doesn't explicitly state it in his manifesto, but he's clearly all in on accelerationism and the Neo-Reactionary (NRX) movement AKA the "Dark Enlightenment". Tech billionaires are attempting to trying to destroy America and rebuild what they are calling "Network States", which are essentially corporate fiefdoms. This is part of the reason why they are trying to sell off public lands. They need land (and farm land) to accomplish this. https://thenetworkstate.com/...

7/26/2025 11:32pm Not sure if you solved this or not, but I was having a creak (accompanied with a really rough beginning stroke) coming from my ohlins that I was convinced was the spring. Turned out to be the eyelet bush being too tight and stopped the eyelet from rotating freely.

7/26/2025 11:08pm In my experience with other brands of brakes (Magura & Hayes), lubing pistons did nothing to resolve sticky pistons long term, and if anything seemed to necessitate doing it more often. The only thing that really resolved sticky pistons on the Hayes was replacing the piston seals. For Maguras, since they don't sell seals & pistons to service them, I had to replace the whole bloody caliper under warranty. My philosophy is: there's no point in lubing them from the outside because the caliper is such a dusty environment, all you'll do is attract more dust to the pistons. Instead...

7/21/2025 12:20am This seems to be a galfer thing with their springs. Try bending the tangs of the pad spring into the sides of the pads so that they're held more tightly in place I.e. "preloading" the pad spring. Just be careful to keep the tangs flat with the pad backing and stop them sticking out into the rotors when the pads...

7/16/2025 5:14am Test ride last night. Works as planned/hoped. I started off with 91psi in the main chamber and 132psi in the secondary. These pressures have always been pretty good support wise but would never get close to 80% travel. Definitely allows me to access that extra bit of travel and feels softer off the top without affecting mid stroke support. Going to tinker with the air pressure in the main/Suppos-air-tory chambers, I reckon I can definitely run a bit less and still have that support.

CascadeComponents Liked a reply to forum topic Have We Been Measuring Sag Wrong? (and how to fix it...)
6/15/2025 1:55pm No, we haven’t been measuring sag wrong. Any method of measuring sag that is repeatable is an acceptable way to measure sag. As it is something that must be tuned as opposed to setting to a specific percentage, being able to repeatably measure sag is the most important thing. You can do this seated and measuring at the shock just fine. If someone wants to measure it with a whole bunch of kit that’s fine, but telling everyone they are wrong and do it wrong is silly. It is definitely worth noting that on more progressive bikes you shouldn’t be...

6/9/2025 2:09pm Resurrecting this to talk about the calculation of anti-squat. I've mentioned before that I don't like the method of tracing lines all over the place. This is because it loses track of what the actual interactions are. Below is an annotated image showing how I like to go about anti-squat. In this case, Fa is the acceleration force, Fc is the chain tension, and Fr is the total rear axle force which is the sum of Fr and Fc. Note that all of this is working with vectors, so all forces and radii have an x and y values. One...

5/15/2025 11:50pm I'm happy to report Asa is being well compensated, at a level equal to his talent and future. Despite choices aplenty, Asa decided to stay with a team capable of fully taking care of him, but also one whose business dealings have been genuine and transparent. Asa's a bright kid, but to assume he was not properly represented and took advise, especially as one of the most branded athletes in the sport is a bit dramatic. No money nor opportunity left on the table. Opportunity: Taz, Wales...Rampage? Who gets that? Money: Private for obvious reasons, but he's making more at...

5/15/2025 11:48pm A few things to consider for those thinking Asa might be getting the short end of the stick. First, Neko is not going to take advantage of Asa; in fact I believe it's the opposite. He's looking out for his overall success, financially and between the tape. Those saying Asa doesn't know what he's doing or that a contract just appeared in a parking lot and he signed it w/o spending time on the details beforehand is insulting to Asa as well as Neko's motives. Second, I'd wager Asa is getting very fairly compensated. There may be some creative incentives...
