Welcome to the wold of inverted forks Colin! In regards to Intend and torque caps, the lug design has changed over the past couple years. It's not that all torque caps are no longer compatible, as much as they are not as effective. The contact area between hub and fork lug is much smaller now and any advantage an oversized end cap interface had is now lost. Left original version, middle current, and right blackline. I agree that the one piece forged version should be inherently stiffer. It would be really interesting to test torsional deflection between the blackline version...

Just my 2 cents, a coil shock on a true trail/all-mountain bike isn't worth the price of admission, weight. I was riding my stumpy evo with a custom tuned coil, ate chunk for dinner, I said to myself, lets add a Smashpot, and a Lift... Next thing you know my carbon wheeled carbon frame all mountain bike weighed 39ish'lbs but was never really spectacular anywhere. Just completed putting the second Smithage system on my Kenevo comp....this runs a Fox40 with the 27.5 lowers at 160mm travel with a 27.5 front wheel in keeping with the bikes original wheel sizes.... The bikes original 180mm fork and axle to crown / fork length of 572mm is now 587mm with 160mm fork and 55mm Link travel for 215mm total travel....this extra height in the front and consequential change in steering geometry is a little offset by running a 2.3 front tire replacing the stock 2.6 front and a 2.8 rear tire replacing the stock 2.6 rear. All this talk of "variable axle path" reminds me of my old Magic Link coilair. A 190mm travel bike that pedals like a 140mm bike, geo would vary too. It slackened out when on the brakes, rear wheel moved truly rearward on bumps, it was a great bike for 2010. The 455mm chainstays made it faster than my DH bike too (455 was huge for that time and 26 inch wheels). Too bad it was a Kona so I cracked two of them.
