4/18/2024 11:15pm Maybe I’m backwards, but if we’re talking cars and bikes here, I’d rather take a page out of history’s books, than look to the future. I currently daily drive a manual transmission 2010 Honda Fit. It’s hands down the best car I’ve ever owned, even when compared to the brand new Subarus and Toyotas I’ve owned in the past. The build quality is stellar, parts are cheap, and there’s not a Bluetooth this or giant TV screen that anywhere in it. If a somewhat reputable manufacturer could make a cloth interior, hand crank windows bare bones commuter car for like...

4/18/2024 8:21pm Cross-posting from the "companies shutting down" thread: Heard from a credible source that Kona is done. Employees told today, PR tomorrow. RIP (Small chance a buyer will step in but not holding my breath).

4/18/2024 8:22pm @ Smelly, Sounds like a good compound for a rear tire in the Cali summer/Southern Europe conditions. Shaka!

4/18/2024 8:20pm Kona needs to pull a Marin and focus on the DTC entry level MTB market, commuter eebs, and roadie stuff for a while. Unfortunately, they'll need to trim some SERIOUS fat to make that happen. If you exclude the recent bogo sale, their component spec/cost, has been absolutely horrible lately (like worse than my recent post history on VitalMTB horrible).

3/28/2024 1:47am I happen to own a coil shock with 4 different coils. 2 progressive springs, and one straight rate spring, I'll probably never use again because I found "the one." ... But I also like being dick sometimes, and I feel like this thread gets derailed way too easily with the same off topic discussions over and over.

3/28/2024 12:22am Everything Geo related is a compromise. Ride a different stem/bar/spacer setup 2 times and it doesn't feel "massively" different anymore. If it still feels bad after 2 rides, revert back and keep searching for the perfect mass produced frame that's absolutely tailor made for just you. The amount of whinging about brake modulation, tire carcass feel, and geo specs in...

3/10/2024 8:16pm I don't know if this will apply to your situation, but I found the HSC knob on my new '23 Super Deluxe to add a lot of harshness on high speed chatter and rocks without adding a lot of upside. I live in a desert with rocks and a lot of high speed chatter, not unlike your ride at Moab. The low speed knob and HBO were friendly but my HSC is either wide open or 1 click from open. YMMV Sesame guy is being more than unhelpful, but he's not completely wrong. It is hard to recommend anything without...

3/10/2024 6:16pm Air VS Coil makes a big difference too. High progression with a linear rate coil spring works really good. Just need enough LSC so the bike doesn't feel lethargic with the softer initial travel.

3/10/2024 5:49pm Really rough trails IME works better with lighter spring rate, faster rebound, and enough HSC for the big impacts you don't anticipate. Don't be afraid to go a spring rate down, and play with the spring preload. i.e. run a lighter spring and preload it more. $.02 Short of that, maybe try reducing your compression and or, add rebound just...

3/9/2024 7:28pm I would hope that too, but Fox would never release some thing Under the marzocchi name, that’s anywhere near as good as its fox, counterpart. Marzocchi is just a marketing scheme to sell older products. That doesn’t mean it’s bad. It just means that it’s old

3/5/2024 3:20pm Going from Fezzari to ARI doesn't seem like much of an improvement to be honest. I would have bought a Fezzari for their killer value,in spite of their name. Maybe third time's the charm with the name?

2/22/2024 5:32pm The Bronze and Turquoise one is a Reign SX. That one and the white/turquoise Trance are a little random IMO. The Trance Frameset and the Red Reign are pretty good looking though. As the current owner of 2 Giants I wish they would go back to the (admittedly dated) look of pastel colors and 90's/early 2k moto style graphics. All...

2/18/2024 8:15pm I've had good luck with an Assegai up front, and a Vigilante out back. Wouldn't mind running a Maxxis rear tire, but they've all been pretty slow rolling for anything but shuttle runs IME. Is the Maxterra compound noticeably faster rolling?

2/2/2024 10:36pm Same. Had one come loose mid-ride. Tightened it by using a rock to hammer the flathead on my multitool into the splines. Was happy to get rid of that wheelset. But I guess if I wanted my rotors to cost more, weigh more, not be serviceable on the trail, and not fit on the vast majority of the wheels in existence, I'd be pretty excited about centerlock.

2/2/2024 10:32pm As long as we're getting rid of 203 / 223 rotors, let's do away with centerlock too. A solution in search of a problem, that mostly just ends up creating more problems.

1/25/2024 2:39pm Their sales/demo rides ratio is probably a lot better in Santa Cruz than it would be if they go full bean counter and move to wherever has the cheapest rent.
