6/20/2024 1:42pm All mtb use bridges should have a 3rd railing board running paraleel that butts against the walking treads. Creates a catch/berm for any front wheel that slips so you can't slide off and slam the posts or worse. I've only seen a few MTB specific bridges with it & only noticed how valuable it was when it saved me once.

6/18/2024 10:33am Not sketchy at all I've been told. The relatively low Young's modulus of aluminium let's you get away with quite a bit of deflection on an aluminium structure without any major impacts on fatigue. Fatigue is apparently an incredibly easy problem to fix from a design perspective; just add a little more material and you're good. Bikes these days undergo...

6/18/2024 3:09am Yup "like water" is redlines 0wt product and actually what fox rebadges to use as their seatpost fluid (although they call it 1.5wt). Crazy low viscosity of 4 cSt and insanely high viscosity index which was very very stable at high temperatures (which I tested here https://tinyurl.com/4ucjdsc7) which is good for something like an off road truck but not mtbs where the operating ranges are much smaller. The downsides are those kinds of oils oxidise really fast and turn your internals dark brown, plus they tend to be super noisy. Oils are a useful tuning tool for some dampers -...

6/17/2024 3:08pm Ibis supposedly launching a new Ripmo (and possibly other models) next month that mimics the design language of the HD6. REALLY quiet out there though which is unusual being this close to launch. Anyone hearing anything new?

6/17/2024 3:03pm SRAM indicates it does not work, my angle grinder believes otherwise. Grinding non-critical centering material off a UDH dropout provided required clearance between the smallest cog and dropout. Shifts great - especially improved shifting to harder gears and under load. X0 (XS-1295) cassette, XX t-type chain, XX1 Eagle mechanical shifter and derailleur.

6/17/2024 4:51am The benefits of higher bars were discussed on this thread a while back, especially for taller riders. https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/general-cockpitcontact-point-discus… I'm only 6'0" but running 82mm riser bars on my enduro bike.

6/13/2024 2:30am For what it's worth, I also love the podcast! You guys are doing a fantastic job bringing us the details from behind the scenes. Getting a racer's perspective on things makes the actual racing even more interesting.

6/9/2024 10:54am Write it down now. Someone's gonna get DQ'ed by the worst placed golf tee in history. This thing should NOT be used as a pivot for a turn in this situation.

6/8/2024 10:24am Something that's worth mentioning is how little you have to shift your COG to change your front/rear tire weight ratio. We're not talking about huge movements or shifts in body position. The whole art of downhill racing is choosing which tire to weight, but our good and noble king Sam Hill looks like his torso never moves when he's riding. He's doing a zillion micro movements of exactly the right amount at exactly the right moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucs8ikH_NDg&t=343s For you, me, Dak, Sam, whoever, if you can find your centered athletic position on a bike and you're comfortable moving around from...
