I know it's been discussed a bunch already, but got another pic of the new 40 at the Fox pit in Les Gets. Didn't get a pic of the dials, but looks like it's still running Grip X2. Dials looked the same as the current gen 40.

As a tall guys, I’m just here to chime in and say I’m about this. Bring it on. Ready for 32s

Between reading through Rockshox development articles and what you descried I've got a decent idea of what you said. I'd love to see dyno data mostly just because I'm a nerd but I think I get the idea. I did know that about measuring sag with the negative spring and always measure it with the rear wheel off the ground...
I'll see if I can put some dyno screenshots together to show it better, but the main piston is quite "high flow" which just means once the shims open there is very little resistance so increasing the base tune mostly just increases the force needed to open the shims (ie low speeds). The LSC adjuster controls bleed around the base valve, but since it works on displaced oil from the shaft it needs quite high speeds to do anything. The step between each click is large though, so 1 more click stiffer should help a bit However spring rate is...

I don’t really want to put any more money into this shock since Im really not the biggest fan of the Touchdown Damper on a coil. I was a huge fan of it on the Vivid air so thought I would give it a try for my first coil but my experience has been it didn’t translate as well. I...

I would email WPS in the UK. They make an aftermarket piston upgrade for the Vivid Coil that might address your concerns: https://wps-mtb.com/products/podium-piston-kit-rockshox-vivid-coil-c1 I'll also just say that your experience is pretty common with RS rear shocks on SC bikes, especially the Megatower. I have a Super Deluxe coil on my Megatower 2 and ended up just running the HSC wide open. That works pretty well for me, and between the LSC, spring rate, and HBO, I've been able to find a setup that works.

This is a great question! At the most basic level, grip = friction x force. There's a fixed amount of mechanical friction that can occur between the ground and the durometer of the rubber for any given amount of force, so a single row of side knobs maximizes the force distributed onto those knobs (as opposed to distributing it across the side knobs and the transition knobs, which would be a larger total surface area). Think of it like stepping on a single nail vs. lying down on a bed of nails. A single nail can puncture even a thick...

Serious tire nerd question here: why do tires with transition knobs feel less secure when they're fully on edge? The overall sentiment seems to be that tires with a channel in between center and side knobs are most locked in in a corner, but I don't quite get how the transition knobs would affect that sensation.

I'm curious as well since I've always struggled with hand/arm fatigue. Even if they do look a little crude/goofy (IMO), I'd still like to know if they actually help. I also think it'd be interesting to see if they do allow you to weight the bike more precisely in turns/off cambers. Not to take away from their launch today, but I was just looking at posts from Charlie Murray, and he's using Loam Lab Counterpunch bar ends (I think a few other enduro riders were using them this season). The goal is more for pinky protection, but it kinda looks...

If you ran 27.7% sag with the 65 mm stroke shock you’d find you need the exact same amount of pressure.

Are you comparing 30% sag of 65 mm to 30% sag of what it was at before? Damping tune does not impact sag.

Owned a blackline Intend edge for some time, never really jived with it. I am a heavier rider (200lbs geared up). Things I didn't get along with the fork - 1. The compression tune was too light from factory, though I did fix that later on. On flatter rides it feels great but never quite gave the confidence to charge in more demanding scenarios. 2. On slow & steep tech sections the "compliance" built into the usd design becomes a bit unnerving - especially when trying to turn with a lot of weight on the front wheel. Sometimes the handlebar...

They would need to make sure that they had a licensing deal in place with us before doing that. We have a pending global patent in place for our fender system.

As a tall guy with long legs and an appetite for big dumb rides that often include shitty 4x4 roads, I’m actually really stoked to see where this whole 32” thing goes. I’d like 32” x 2.4” mezcals for my next lap on the white rim please.
