Wow, part way through the Downtime recap and it sounds like this race was a total junk show from a safety/organizational standpoint.

The tread is very different, take a look at the photos on their website. Before it was like a pair of wide knobs, then 3 small/narrow rows of 2, then the wide ones again. Now it's 2 wide, 2 medium, 2 wide.

The tread pattern was also changed to make less of transition. Schwalbe say the 2.5 will be better if this is what you're looking for

Thanks @KylerOnBikes and @AndehM ! I wasn’t sure if the 2.4 had an updated pattern, but now I see it clearly doesn’t, and also isn’t offered in Radial! Looks like I’ll try the Romy Diagonal rear for now with the Magic Mary front I already have, and then swap it for a 2.5 TC Radial in June if I can...

Anyone have a read on the differences between the 2.4 and 2.5 Radial Tacky Chan? If it’s just a wider casing, I’m inclined to order the 2.4 for less transition between center and side knobs, but I wasn’t sure if there were other differences.

I would probably just use a radial in the front and a regular casing in the rear if rolling resistance is of any significance

I just updated the lever and hoses and the silver is a legit silver now. My calipers have that slight blue hue to them in some light and the levers don’t.

Only DH options. Too heavy for trail bikes, dang.

Grid Trail is in my experience less protective but more supple, with better feel than the Conti Enduro. As far as softness/grip goes, I’d place T9 and T7 as softer than the Conti compounds, but not quite as soft as MaxxGrip and MaxxTerra respectively.

Most fat biking is in low tide snow, so you still get rocks and roots that sometimes poke out. Also fat tires are undamped suspension, and they bob quite a bit on hard pack. Annoyingly so. Plus there is tire squirm, rim bottom out on hard compressions, etc. Really, not that different from normal sized tires.

The Argotal is a perfect tire for the conditions I love to ride. Pretty much all the local trails are concrete-hard flow and jump lines though, so it’s extremely sketchy to run something like that most of the summer here. Vigilante, Butcher, or Magic Mary radial do best here.

My experience mirrors yours that the Argotal in 2.6 on a 35 internal rim is an absolutely horrible tire for cornering grip on hardpack. The knobs fold over so soon that it makes you unable to corner aggressively when your trails are rock and hardpack. On soft surfaces, the Argotal is really good. My experience with the Kryptotal and Assegai is that they're both worse than DHF/DHR on rock/hardpack, but the Assegai is passable while the Kryptotal still folds the shoulder lugs too easily.
