I am not finding it hard to root for him. Now if he keeps going next year or two like this it will change maybe. I am enjoying his taking it to those who had been dominating.

100%, it’s absolutely brutal right now. I was thinking it was tariff-related but if the prices are that bad in NZ, that’s tough to swallow.
What about going up a frame size on an xc bike and running a short stem on it? As much as we talk about chainstay length and weight distribution, a bike with a longer reach will shift the actual center of gravity forwards, and help balance out the weight distribution even if the chainstays aren't as long as you would otherwise like. Ultimately, there are a lot of very efficient pedaling short travel trail bikes with a geo more similar to a bigger travel bike, the SC Tallboy for one, or the Norco Fluids, that would probably fit what you...

@VitalBrad when I’m logged in, the home page shows articles that are a few days old. I can only see the most recent articles when I log out of my account. Not sure if it’s just me, but pretty weird.
Thats true, which is ultimately why I went with the Chisel. It responds so well on the pedals, which is really what I need for the local stuff. I also wanted something that rode in stark contrast to my Prime, which it for sure does.

Yeah, not to go into it too much but our longest descent trail in town is kind of a joke since it was neutered by input from the on-foot community. It's a great climb up, and it's technically a flow trail on the way down, but you need a bike that pedals great, rolls fast, AND can hold speed through...

Always Mary in the front, always in super soft, and now that it's a thing, Radial too, i don't like flow stuff so for me it's just the best front tyre in all sort of condition, Dust, Mud, Loam, Slabs, Roots, Snow, Everything

Climbing more than anything is what kickstarted my interest in bike geometry. My Canfield Lithium descended great on literally anything, but while I loved it climbing ledgy stuff in Arizona, I found it looped out on a lot of steep and extended local climbs here in Alaska. Conversely, I love how my REEB SST climbs here, but last fall in...

For anyone wondering, the complete lack of siping on the corner knobs of the new Butcher/Eliminator are definitely noticeable when it’s wet. They can definitely hydroplane a little bit. Not a huge deal since I typically ride the short travel bike in the dry, but something to note. Since I seem to have a knack for picking the most expensive...

What do you pair it with in the front? It seems like Mary would maybe feel a bit squirmy since the side knobs are softer, but I’m not sure.

Anybody try a Terevail Warwick as a rear tire? I'm curious about the Durable/Grip as a potential Trail Boss replacement, but maybe it's slow than it looks.

I ran a Michelin Force AM2 as a rear on my Sentinel for a season and was pretty stoked on it. It rolls fast, corners predictably, and has a nice stout casing. Last I checked, they were pretty cheap too.

I’ve run Kyptotal fr & re- loved em but rolling was a little slow 29 & MX Tried Kryp fr Argo on the rear- slipped out a bit on me 29 Have run Schwalbe Radial MM fr & Rear both SS and Ivey were slow rolling but man the grip in New England Spring 29 & MX Swapped out the rear for a Soft Trail Albert aging and sped up. MX Have been running trail casing Mazzas front and rear and have no complaints whatsoever. Weight penalty is made up by rolling speed and braking. Lean angle feels pretty righteous...

Michelin Wild Enduro Rear Gum-x (not the racing line one) seems like a good choice for what you are looking for. Feels very similar to the old eliminator.

I’m pondering what the fastest (not necessarily lightest) tires I could get away with at a 200 lb rider weight on the Sentinel (160/160). For the most part, even our most aggressive trails are ones where rolling speed and trail speed are somewhat interchangeable, so the Enduro Argotal/Kryptotal Re combo is feeling a bit overkill. The trick is, I’d really...
