flgfish Added a reply to New season where is Fox's DIALED??

Damn. This was a main way I kept up with last seasons WCDH. Real bummer. To be frank, months of watching Dialed surely influenced my suspension preferences. I feel much more positively about Fox than I did several years ago. Guess they won’t be front and center for my attention this year.

I'm devastated. One of my favourite parts of the season. Was thinking something was up when there was nothing today after track walk so I started searching for info. That's just plain ruined my Friday night and the season won't be the same....

I'm down to go with mostly torx bolts. I hate stripped Allen heads... As for pedal threads, Google Shimano Dynadrive

We should draw up a table of things that are constant, and convince Scott or any of the other egregious firms (like all the road bikes) that there is hidden performance behind ditching these antiquated standards. Like why are we still using Allen bolts for everything, surely we can swap to Torx or even better Square safety heads. Forget pedals threads, pedals should be press fit, it enables us to make lighter cranks by not having threaded inserts.

The only thing stupider than judged mountain bike competitions is this thread. Like, this thread is agressively stupid. I will come out and say that I have always been critical of slopestyle since it’s inception- judged events don’t belong in cycling. I have never watched a slopestyle competition, never will watch a slopestyle competition, and I am deeply skeptical that more than 3 or 4 of the competitors have sponsors that pay them living wages. The bike industry doesn’t have two nickels to rub together right now. These riders aren’t using Ebikes- so they aren’t exactly marketable… Gt/Cannondale recalled 3...

Whats this “Hustle” you speak of? That sounds an awful lot like work to me!

Wow. This thread is fun. Few thoughts I feel compelled to share. 1) I personally am not anti-union. I am however suggesting its important to know "what value you bring to the table" (individually or as a group). Any group of people can unionize, it doesn't mean there is underlying value that will result in pay increases (or pay at all). 2) Wu-Tang said it best. CREAM. This doesn't just go for the riders, but the promoters and anyone trying to get paid off of this sport. Unfortunately, the (free) "cash (flow) pie" is highly unlikely to be big enough...

Interesting divergence in attitudes towards slope guys and racers. How many people pay their own entry, travel, etc for a WC DH for the opportunity to prove themselves and don’t even qualify? Maybe it’s the difference in subjective v. objective performance and the more structured ability to quantify value? Comparing to another niche sport, skiing…Who has the deeper field and bigger contracts? Is it the racers or the artists? Outside of a few peak X-Games era competitors (ie Shaun White) I’d immediately assume it’s the racers. I like a slopestyle edit but I find watching a whole comp painful and...

I don’t think anyone here has said they don’t deserve to GET paid or get a raise. You’re only arguing with yourself on that FRONT. The objections have come from THEIR methods to achieve IT.

If 2 months before the contest word had gotten out that the original invited riders weren't going to show up, there would have 100 other guys who would been stepping on their own d__ks to get a spot in that contest..

Here's the thing. That rider "protest" didn't screw them. It screwed thousands of people who either planned to work the event to put food on the table (cause nobody working Crankworx is living large). They screwed the town, community, restaurants, transportation companies, food vendors, booth workers, trail builders, course volunteers who gave up a week of their lives to do something cool and fun, thousands of hungry fans who CHOSE to come see them instead of have a fun week/weekend. They built animosity for the tourism bureau, the resort that allowed the event promoter to have it, the freaking bus...

Lets not forget that all of this is a money making enterprise. Everything from the pins on the pedals to the rider standing on the podium. There is someone, or a corporation putting money into it all to make money. Just like any work place if the organisation/shop/company/not for profit does not make money it does not survive. We are more and more seeing people demanding more and more from the ecosystem. There will always be a need to advocate for better conditions, more pay better work life balance but there is ultimately a time where it puts pressure on...

I agree. I'm an engineering manager for a massive aerospace company worth $6B+ and they don't buy me lunch every day. They expect me to manage my finances so that I can feed myself, travel to and from work, and perform the job they paid me to do. This is a company makes the Crankworx organization look like a kids lemonade stand, and all they do is pay me a salary to do a single job. Just like the sponsors are paying these guys to show up to comps and do a job. Obviously not all jobs are the same...

Man...the appearance fee, wanting food & accommodation...those are benefits not even employees can get. Sorry, but this reads as Gen Z bullshit. Don't fly to the OTHER END OF THE WORLD to spin your bike in the air for a few if you don't have your own money, sponsors, contracts, insurance & extradition in order. These guys are talking like they are a single entity that supplies Crankworx with a set pool of "performers" for a "show". If that's the case, they should have NAMED a FLAT appearance fee for their collective/entity/company (insert name of freeriders here). You want to...

Something that also doesn't translate well across the Atlantic is our use of highly offensive words as terms of endearment: in Scotland, if you think highly of someone, it is more than acceptable to describe them as a "good c**t". Unlike a bike company executive who signed off on headset cable routing, who may instead be referred to as a "bit of a c**t". Context is everything.

The problem isn’t the argument, it’s the execution. It shows a complete lack of thoughtfulness and is likely group think at its finest. The day before an event is not the proper time to make your point. Showing no care for your fans that showed up to this event is pretty alienating. This is all ignoring the state of the industry in which there are a lot of really good people that are with out the jobs they had a year ago. Shame on the riders and shame on redbull. There are no winners with this.

slightly off topic but effects this a little: Hopefully more Brands jump on the Frame only option as the prices come down... At the moment here for e.g a frame is 3k but complete slx build is 4k... we shouldnt be able to buy complete bikes and make money off them by parting them out, (for e.g i bought a heap of status's, stumpy evo's & slashes when on a huge throw out) I made a heap of money. Basically if frame only options wernt so damn expensive i would buy even more Frame only options so i can try...
