I dont know anything about Dak, but Ryan has gotten his fastest times ever on the bike on runs he knows very well and can make good comparisons. Mondraker is keen to make the bike fast and and is making that a priority. So I think whomever is on the bike will do well.

When Jesse left it sounded largely like Rocky is fundamental not a very large budget team and he was moving on to bigger opportunities a bigger team could offer. Hopefully it's a similar situation with ALN.

They really should have some sort of supplemental insurance setup that is paid for by entry fee. I destroyed my wrist auto racing and had to have it reconstructed and physical therapy. To my surprise my entry fee included a plan like this that picked up every dime my insurance wouldn’t pay. It would have covered it completely if I did not have any insurance. I think there was a cap, but it was up in the six figure range if I remember correctly.

Worth mentioning that brake power is relative to rotating weight. As your rim, tire, and potentially tire insert get bigger and heavier, your wheel is significantly harder to stop, which necessitates bigger rotors. That sounds a little conspiracy hat-ty, but it's real. I felt this as I upgraded to 29" from 27.5", and as I started moving towards downhill tires and later inserts on my trail bikes, and I believe this is why 4-piston brakes are now standard on trail and even XC bikes, when 2 piston brakes were fine on many 26" enduro bikes. Not to sound like a dick but I hope most people ignore this. 1) Martin is one of one. You don't ride a bike like him and neither do I. 2) According to the telemetry data I've seen, most (good) riders do in fact use their brakes for ~85% of a descent. Even Neko just noted at the WC level guys are on their brakes 80% of a run. 3) The whole point of a brake is to take kinetic energy and turn it into thermal energy. The more "room" a system has with respect to heat management, the better...

Trying to save weight on brakes and rotors is just plain stupid. I have never finished a ride and thought if only i had bought those xc 2pots I could have saved 200 grams and shaved 2.5 seconds of my climb.

For example, it takes me about 3-4 months to feel truly dialed on a new mountain bike. I got a chance to check out the new V3 dropper the last couple of weeks so I took it upon myself to tear it down and compare the V2 and V3 internals. V3 is very noticeably lighter, the horizontal rattle when the seat is dropped is definitely improved, the seals and bushings are beefed up considerably, and it's ridiculously easy to work. I am building a Specialized Status single-speed bike just for fun. Why not!? Bikes are cool, building them is fun, and I am going to enjoy the jibs from my friends when I show up with a totally impractical "Slopeduro" bike that I can't pedal up any hills on an evening fun ride. If you have the budget and time and interest, go for it. Enjoy the ride, we only get to go around once.

I know this answer will be downvoted especially on this forum, but... I personally got rid of my upgraditis back in 2018, when I bought my first e-bike. Previously, I had changed my bike every other year, always buying one of the cheaper models and swapping over almost every component to mid/high end stuff. Every bike swap brought some clear benefits from 12mm axles, 29 wheels, geometry etc. Once I got my e-bike, with heavy cheap wheels, a heavy cheap drivetrain and its 23kg, which I got closer to 24kg once I put the heaviest DH tyres I could find...
