DServy Added a reply to what kind of brake pads to use front vs back

10/31/2023 8:56pm
I disagree with having "less capable" in the front, as I view the front brake being the "Boat Anchor" as it were. If I'm really trying to slow down I'm using more front brake than rear. I can see the rear needing to manage heat better as its more likely to be engaged for longer (e.g braking to maintain a...

So I own and have used the MI kit, and it's great. The only issue I have is that I've had some rear sensor issues more recently and have tried to get in contact with the folks at MI (who used to be very great and responsive) and it's unfortunately been crickets (Update: Rob's reach out in the forum, so...

Sory but this is the internet where you have to immediately treat someone like an imbecile as soon as they say something that differs from you opinion.

Maybe calling people clowns isn't a great way to get people to engage in a productive discourse on any particular issue. Also, relivent: https://xkcd.com/1357/ As far as Pinkbike, I think they'll be fine for a long while. Their operation isn't too capital expensive (it's basically hosting cost and an office in Squamish) and they can always shed payroll before taking...

DServy Added a comment about product review Bomber Z1 (2019-2024)

I went to 500 from Ohilns spring calculator that stuck me at 457 lb spring. I think it's all on what you're trying to do. At the end of the day, it is only 140mm in the rear. For what its worth, the Ohlins TTX is better than the pushed 11.6 I had on my wreckoning (in retrospect, that bike and its DELTA link has fundamental issues). I'd say the Ohlins feels more like a planted and "race ready" than I I've felt in a shock before. If the goal is gobs of traction and to go fast, I'd say...

For what its worth, I recently stuck an Ohlins TTX with an absurdly high HSC tune on it (CS40) and have been messing around with it for about a month now. I find that, while a bit liberal with its travel, the crap ton of HSC means that it stays pretty up and supportive through a majority of things and really only bottoms out with any sort of harshness on square edge hits that are full weight on the rear. It also means I run pretty open LSC (which has its benefits). I'm 200ish on a 500 lb spring. I...

First Impressions - As with most Hope products, the fist impression of this cassette were very good. The finish appeared top quality, and pulling a platter sized cassette out of the box, I was instantly blow away by how light it was. Setup - Mounting this cassette requires that you own a Hope or DT Swiss hub. I mounted it to a DT 240 using the OneUp mini driver. Very painless process. With the bike in the stand, I bottomed out my suspension and cut my chain as short as the derailleur would allow me to go. Now I was...

So with your logic , we should still be on bikes from the 90's. Why improve? Why go faster at all? Why should a racer get better brakes to have more control so he can go faster? Everyone else will buy them. Why should a racer get a lighter bike? Everyone else will get one. Why should a racer get better suspension for more control to go faster? Eventually everyone else will . FI cars should still look like they did in 1975 or earlier. Why race at all? I mean, if racing is seeing who is faster and faster...

Faster is always better in race, that is why they call it a race. Whether it's faster thru a tech section/track like Val di Sol or faster on a more bike park type track, faster wins races...zero exceptions. Every single fan boy of Sam Hill for example (I am one as well) wants him to be faster that all the other riders. That is how he wins a race. You get thru the super technical or super flowy sections of a course FASTER than the other riders on the same course. Style points are only great for videos and slope/jump...

Why go faster? Because that's racing! That's literally the point of everything about racing. I'm just at a loss when any pro racer goes "hey, let's not go any faster." I understand the safety concerns, but saying that we should cap a wheel size to prevent people going faster isn't addressing the real issue of how to keep riders safe.
