4/19/2026 1:19pm This Just In! Stark Motorcycles is going to be joining the MTB world with its EBike Called the Stark “NotaMoto”. This ebike has 80 horse power and a gear box. Apparently they made the decision to join the bike industry after one of the executives said- “ I mean its all bullshit. You can buy an ebike from Specialized at the same price as our motorcycles. But with like 1/1000th the power. We should just put mountain bike wheels on a Varg and just sell it to them. Theyre just in denial that they want a motorcycle and want to...

4/19/2026 1:19pm It may not be a "whole separate sport", but there sure is a "whole separate text thread" for the e-bike riders in my friend circle. Now we rarely have big group rides as the crew is split in two and it's a pain to ride laps with both bike types together. So I'd say its a "whole different discipline" of pedaling a rolling thing with your feet.

4/19/2026 1:18pm I should have written „for a whole ride“. Your post sounds a bit harsh imho. ;-) And no doubt, there are people who ride their emtbs like regular bikes. And folks who can ride (again) because of emtbs. Cool! And I don’t even judge, as long as people enjoy emtbing, I am happy. Regular bikers can also be fun OR problematic, no worries. But to me it feels more and more like a different sport. It’s not biking it’s biking with a motor… If I am on an emtb, I sure ride differently. And most bikers who were bikers before...

4/18/2026 10:18pm I think that's sort of the point, the only metric anyone cares about is the motor. The essence of riding an eBike is what the motor gives you. The rest of the "bike" part takes a back seat. And no one seems to care, even though the slippery slope foreboding was waved away as an irrational fear

4/18/2026 10:16pm Somehow emtbs are going in a direction a lot of us figured they’d go from the start. It is more and more about the motor and the battery and less and less about the „bike“ part. They might be fun, they might be fast. But to me it seems more and more like two different sports. With those new torque numbers, it seems rather dubious (ridiculous) to talk of assistance. Maybe the rider assisting the motor, but not the other way around. Not even world class sprinters come close to outputting what a full power Avinox or Bosch is doing...

4/18/2026 10:13pm I've heard about that. It's Enduro that's willing to give up its right to vote in order to disappear and be protected from the horrors happening to other racing genres. Right?

4/18/2026 10:12pm Due to the motor. Also, most people drop their seats to some degree on steep technical climbing on e-bikes. A steep seatube angle isn’t as important when you have a motor.

4/7/2026 9:45pm S500 is chrome plated, as X01 and XX1 are (were), but is solid pin, so a bit heavier. What can I say, load up on X01 shifters? Looks like they are going the way of the dodo...

3/31/2026 12:32pm My PhD advisor's brother was a professional motocross rider until he ended up in a wheelchair after his visor got stuck in terrain in a low-speed crash. That was 30-something years ago with a motorcycle helmet, but there's something to be said for breakaway items that might create leverage on your neck. I'll take a facial injury before I give up the use of my limbs.

3/24/2026 11:49pm Not sure how it's done in North America or even other places in Europe, but at least here in Slovenia ski resorts aren't the owners of the land under the groomed slopes. So this is a major problem making bike parks, agreeing on land access. Grooming snow on a meadow is a whole different ballpark than making dirt canals in said meadow, doubly so when cows graze there in the summer. As for ski resorts vs. bike park, skiing on-piste and riding bikes in a bike park aren't really analogues. When you take into account how technically demanding skiing is...
