Bandeira has to be one and the other ... Ethan Craik? It's either him or he's the new Canyon rider, although Antoine Pierron is a good fit there.

I would not recommend SoCal unless you have friends to guide you around while you're here. I moved here a year ago and every time I ride with friends who are local it's a great ride, whereas every time I go on my own to check things out from Trailforks or verbal recommendations or whatever, I get lost or it sucks. A lot of intersections with no signs and seemingly identical overgrown trails heading every direction. South Mountain in Phoenix is very easy to navigate as an outsider and there are other riding spots nearby like Sedona and Prescott valley...

Right now I'm doing my senior mechanical engineering project on a subject related to this. I'm measuring a tire's effective spring rate and seeing how it changes with tire construction, with the goal of using it as a tuning parameter in addition to internal pressure. Obviously this is for the pointy end of the spear in terms of rider skill; mainly aiming at pro teams to use the info/device during pre-season testing. In the research process I was lucky enough to connect with a WC mechanic and tire weight inconsistency is just the tip of the iceberg. The person I...

"I actually kept up with Sam Hill" should be the headline. That's resume material. Who cares how many practice laps, still counts in my book.

www.vhsmtb.com fixes all. Love it and got it on both my bikes. I'd rather run the VHS than most anything the bike companies come up with, even the snazziest I've seen.

Not sure if this is true, but in my mind, a poppet valve is either open or closed. Whereas the cone valve has open and closed positions, but everywhere in between as well based on the oil pressure, backing spring and cone shape?

I think some or most of the Pirelli DH athletes are actually running the Pirelli tires, so they probably in fact have a "competitive tire". I have a theory that most World Cup DH teams are not running production tires even if not marked like we've seen with some Maxxis ("Test Pilot") and Schwalbe ("First Ride") riders. The Continental teams...

Q Factor? Hoping they went wider than most brands which seem to think we all have narrow hips.

I did a little googling and no one should be surprised to learn that the late, great Sheldon Brown built just such a test fixture to perform just such a test, applying 25 pounds of lateral force to dozens of different wheels in different lacing patterns and spoke counts, and varying spoke tension to test the affect on lateral stiffness. The whole article is fascinating and worth a read: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/rinard/wheel_index.html He found that, "Wheel stiffness does not vary significantly with spoke tension unless a spoke becomes totally slack." He also tests a bunch of other questions, like "Are front wheels...

My V10 with Chris King hubs ate bumps until I locked up the wheel. The math says there’s no benefit from Ochain/low engagement hub while the wheel is rolling but really most bikes these days feel pretty good if you really get off the brakes and let it run. When are riders most likely to be bothered by any unwanted rear suspension stiffness? Probably braking into corners when the wheel is slowing or locking on each bump. I think Neko has said a couple times that he’s pretty much on the brakes all the way down most WC tracks. Fort...

JasBushey, I'm gonna push back a little on the "cone drills or ladders aren't worth my money" thing. The one-on-one Fluidride clinic I attended with Simon that drastically improved my pro downhill racing skills (I'd already attended one or two world cup races at this point) was largely cones on a gravel road. I don't want to give away too much of Simon's secret recipe here, but I distinctly remember thinking "this is the dumbest thing ever" at the start of the clinic and then being totally humbled within 5 minutes. And again, we were at Duthie Hill which has...

I snagged a take off set from a V10 a few years back (Raceface ARC HD 29" on DT 350s) and they've treated me well on the dh bike. Probably not as strong as the FR560s that I've run in the past though.
