Your experience makes sense. 4 years ago, for the first time, I rented an ebike at Kanuga. Aside from having a wicked-good-time, I couldn't noticing that there were these small groups of riders: maybe an 8 yr. old kid, a teenager, and an older man or woman, all riding together. They were families, actually all riding together, UPHILL. I checked memory, and realized how seldom I'd seen this in my 40 years of biking. Ebikes are a great tool for families to enjoy mountain biking together. Full stop. If Ebike manufacturers haven't taken advantage of this marketing opportunity, well, here's...

2 hot takes there. Aesthetics being subjective, I think it looks amazing. It’s also interesting you say Benoit can’t get used to it when he was the key tester during development…

Yo, also on the trail crew. Not really down to get into the mud with all of the environmental permitting stuff which is really above my dirt-shaping pay grade, but misinformation about the crew test riding our own course build is where I draw the line. We rode it last week on trail bikes and will be riding more this week. T>B

It's not uncommon for the summit of Whiteface to be 10-15°F cooler than the base. The race course starts well under half the way up the mountain, so it shouldn't be affected too much, but it means there might be some cool shots with frost or dustings of snow at the top, and fall foliage at the bottom.

Maxima plush 7wt - you can get small bottles of this pretty easily so it would be my first pick anyway. I like Motorex oils most of the time but RS shocks can be sensitive to viscosity so I probably wouldn't mess with that, especially when you are changing tune. Slick honey is great, use it for everything Soft jaws are crucial but you don't really need shaft clamps for an SDLX Air valve tool is the main thing Loctite 263 is also fine - not super critical but you can read loctites data sheets to check if they are...

Either Ochain reduces feedback to my feet. Sidekick hub works well but maybe feels different in a way, not as soft feeling or vibration deadening. The rear hub rolls incredibly smooth/fast. Personally I didn’t like rimpact because the spring tension was too high and feels weird to pedal.

Going to the more progressive linkage will get you a softer off the top feel. You'll likely want to go up in spring rate to keep sag similar. In my mind, the whole starting ratio thing is more of a question of whether or not spring rates will work out for people or not. If you say that you want a heavy rider to be on a 650, then you have to limit starting leverage ratio. Personally I feel bigger riders get the most benefit out of a longer shock stroke as opposed to a more linear bike. For example...

If I took Suspension design advice from this thread, Id get Fired. There's Far to much to consider When discussing the length of a swing arm. From leverage and physical length to Pivot placements(and additional links such as Giant/DW or flipped horst) and how they relate to the Bottom bracket AND then you have to take into account Static and dynamic Measurements.(and lets not even get into How chainring size effects Anti squat...) The one bike That makes an excellent example of Geo is the Gen 6 slash.(when talking rear ends). The 434(L) static Rear centre looks short but it...

Just a buncha butthurt Yankees in here. Finding it hard to celebrate a young Canuck on top of the game. The irony is that if Jackson were American, those same butt hurt yanks would be being obnoxiously chanting ooo-rah USA! USA! with hand guns blasting in the air

It's so awesome to be reminded of the work those guys did in 2006-ish to make Champerey happen. Ben posting their pics on RideMonkey & maybe Littermag was amazing. We'd heard the rumours of the steepness, but him giving us the stories of the build hurdles & when the pic of them hanging off the digger into the abyss in Morgins dropped, it really brought home what they were accomplishing. Feels like the story of how gnarly it is there should always be accompanied by the build pics. Diesel & Dirt 🤠

Shout out to Fabien Cousine, Ben Walker (New World Disorder fame) aka @buckoW & all the track builders there & the Morgins tracks. Never forget the walking digger & what these folks REALLY accomplished in that region!!!
