Laurie Greenland talks about why he stopped wearing one in this podcast: https://www.downtimepodcast.com/laurie-olly/ Basically it caused issues when he went to a longer reach bike, which also made his riding style less wild. With the new body position he couldn't hold his head high enough with the brace. He's definitely stepped up his racing game since he made those changes.

That was awesome. Great to see Alex living his dream in New Mexico! I spent over a decade racing with him and usually getting beat by him! The last time I saw him was at the 2006 World Masters at Sun Peaks. Man, I wanted some of his BCD bikes back in the day. He is a true pioneer of the sport, so far ahead of the curve.

Don't love the idea of permanent numbers. The idea of keeping numbers consistent through each season seems more reasonable. It would also help if teams weren't switching kits quite so often. Between practice kits, race kits, and special-edition kits that are sometimes only used for one weekend, I often can't easily tell what team (let alone which racer) I'm looking at unless there's a clear view of the bike, or it's somebody with a RedBull/Monster/etc. helmet (RIP Greg's Clif Bar helmets...) Seems like keeping consistent jerseys/kits throughout the season would make it easier to identify riders than having to re-learn...

I'll open this up by simply stating I love bike racing. To add, I believe enduro racing might be the most fun kind of bike racing I've ever done (without a motor). Unfortunately, its one of the harder sports when it comes to storytelling; breaking down what happened out there during a day in an exciting medium for a casual fan to get excited about. That race was so fun! I still ride it once or twice a month. I miss the lift! Bernie won at least two MSC races there and Cedric Gracia won one while manualing one of the straight aways. The freeride comp was fun, Krispy's line was nuts! Richie Schley and Brett Tippie were in the comp two. I think one of them won and Krispy got 2nd? And we thought Krispy was robbed.
