There’s not really a single setting, the other issue of that you can change the feel of the bike in every other area of the trail. I would slow down the shock rebound, stiffen the fork HSC and speed up the fork HSR. High AR and low AR have different feels and it might just be something you need to get used to and how to use it. I’m in the opposite postion where my DH bike has low AR and ebike is high AR. So I get such a stiff feel from shock when braking.

I've got a (I believe to be) kinematics related question, specifically with regard to anti-rise and tuning for different steepness tracks. I recently bought a SC Vala, which switches to 4bar from VPP, and compared to the other SC bikes, one of the traits that stands out is that the AR stays consistently lower (~70% iirc) as opposed to dropping...
1) I think this would vary with the hub mfgs themselves, I have seen an assembly drawing for a front hub that had a tolerance of +- 1mm for the effective width (which is huge). In measuring maybe a dozen random boost front hubs over the years, I have never found one more than 0.5mm over or under 110mm. 2) Potentially a big effect. Increasing or decreasing effective hub width by 0.2mm can be enough of an adjustment to go from a "sticky" chassis/bushing fit, to one where the uppers drop to the bottom with gravity. A floating axle system...

alot of clipless pedals have the icy feeling, those who say 'i dont have that' infact do have it but they are unware and/or used to them, especially SPD style, Generally except for the oneup pedals and some of the older shimano pedals Theres a reason Crankbrother mallet's are popular even with shimano and other brand sponsored riders, they offer a lot of shoe to pedal platform contact.plus you can get in by standing on the pedal. before I went to Mallets I messed with heaps of SPD and HT style, shimano did have the DXR which was good as...

The pins actually interface with the shoe, if you want them too. Don’t forget, the clip mechanism (the eggbeater) spins freely of the body where the pins are mounted. Dropping your heels and pushing into the pedals your shoe rotates back a degree or so until meeting the body which lets the pins sink in like a flat pedal does. Leaning forward in a sprint and pushing down and back, the shoe rotates forward and the same happens. The Oneup, and any other SPD I can think of, does not rotate the clip mechanism relative to the pedal body. Your...

the pins on Mallet's work well and those pedals are heavily loved by anyone who takes riding clips seriously. However I found myself riding oneup's Over the last 2 weeks (since release) - They figured out that lame 'free play' flaw with SPD's and they are much less "icy' or metal-on-metal feeling before you hit the float so they feel waaaay less sketchy than Shimano's offerings. The only downside to the oneups is the release tension is quite high even on low - otherwise i love them but not enough to sell my mallets.

Good question. Slight tangent, but I’ve been toying with the idea of launching a monthly podcast where I unpack stuff like this. I didn’t think people would care, but when you break it down in a way that maps to our world, it actually seems to land. And honestly, it’s way easier for me to riff on this in audio form than hammer it out on a keyboard. Anyway, I read through the last few pages of comments, good to see Revel back from the dead, by the way. I’ll probably share more thoughts on that later (maybe). For now...

as a racer, i'd never expect the race organizers to make sure my international travel legalities were sorted. i would hope at teh elite level, teams and managers would be offering insight so athletes could focus on the racing itself.

As a trail builder who likes clean forests, f*** course tape, that plastic ribbon has a way of sticking around forever. I'm talking in generalities here, not necessarily WCDH, but I'd like to see tape completely go away (same with tear-offs). Poles are a better solution, just need to use a wee bit of common sense. Stripe them if they're a caution/jump marker vs course marker. Works for color blind riders and can be done with a handy roll of gaff tape instead of having a separate inventory of markers. Just put 3 black stripes on markers that won't DQ...

1. it was addressed in this forum hours after it happened with the link to the carlson trackwalk video saying the b zone is around the jump in track and the timing banner being the course limit. 2. countless number of podcasts and people you just mentioned above talked about it after it was sorted here. the answers were out there days ago. doesn't change the fact course labeling was bush-league, but it's done and gone. all we can do is see how loudenvielle is laid out.

Sell it at peak COVID, buy it back for pennies on the dollar in peak tariffs. The only way to make money in the bike industry?

Really interesting to watch these private equity firms continuing to sell these brands back to their former owners. You would think buying a large property with resources behind you would be more difficult than managing it. But apparently not.

Press release from Revel! - https://www.vitalmtb.com/news/press-release/revel-bikes-founder-buys-ba… Also, here is an open letter from Founder Adam Miller, about what's transpired with Revel over the years and how/why he's decided to buy back the brand. A Letter from Adam Miller - Founder of Revel Bikes My whole life has been shaped by bicycles. I started tinkering with bikes as a kid, and by the time I was 11, I was running a mini bike business out of my bedroom in Anchorage, Alaska, parting out used bikes and selling them on eBay. A few years later, when I was 14, I landed a...

I put Oak levers on my Maven's last week and rode them over the weekend. I originally planned to buy the Freedom Coast levers because one of the owners there/at Better Bolts has always been overly nice to me, but I got these for a good price at my job so I can't tell you the differences between the brands. I ride gloveless as often as possible so I bought the Oak's mainly because of the dimples on the lever only to quickly feel like they're almost a little too abrasive for my bare fingers. It was cold out so...

@AndehM & @FaahkEet had inquired about aftermarket levers on sram brakes in the tech rumors thread. I am moving the response to that over here. I have freedom coast levers on my TRP DHR Evo's and I have them on a set of maven bronze. I also have a set of Oak Components levers that I previously had on a set of Code RSC and now on a set of Maven Ultimate. I quite like the levers on the DHR Evos... I would consider aftermarket levers on those brakes a must. That being said, it took me a bit to...

Have the oak levers on maven silvers. Can confirm, lever feels less flexy which translates to a bit more power. Not super noticeable, but it’s there. Mounting them was a bit of a hassle but definitely an upgrade from stock levers imo

It's funny because, spray paint the 'jump markers' pink or red, and none of this is an issue. Like if you wanna get rid of tape, for whatever reason, sure go for it. But if your replacement is... Well, dogshit. At least put in the lowest common denominator effort to make it easier on riders and viewers. If dangerous rocks are painted pink for visibility, 'jump markers' (if thats what they are) should also be painted pink and represent potential danger (aka, GAP!).

You put either of them on Mavens? I know the PB review of both on TRPs preferred Oaks as well. I was curious if they change the Maven feel at all other than adding texture. I don't have any issue with the stock Maven levers, but the Oaks look pretty.
