One of the things I love about this sport are stories like Ronan's. Watching him on WynTV where they talk about him getting the privateer award 3 years ago, to winning his first WC race (massive kudos to Wyn and GT for what they're doing). It'd be such a loss for stories like this to become a thing of the past if WB/D continue to push the sport the way they seem to be set on.

I remember Ben cathro talked about how a long time ago orange made him a custom dh bike based on his height that had similar numbers to what he rides now and he didn’t get along with it. It was a massive change from what he was used to and he struggled with it. Ultimately going back to riding a stock or near stock bike. so pros, consumers, and bike designers alike seem to benefit from the slight geo changes every few years but a huge change just doesn’t work for most people. Especially true if they are on the...

Regarding tight liaison times: I think people are lacking context following other racing disciplines, especially road racing. In road racing, what determines the cream of the crop who race the Tour de France (World Tour) vs others (Pro Tour) is endurance and durability. The World Tour racers can hold 85-90% of their FTP for 6+ hours and end a race sprinting near their max, whereas Pro Tour racers see a much higher rate of degradation in power output over the same length of time. Similarly, the EDR racers who had issues making the Finale times are simply not as fit...

Geometron wasn't happy about people finding a spot to squeeze a bottle in up front of the shock so they stick a brace in there. Any list of what has changed on this one?

and that‘s bad how? you can‘t show up on a formula 1 event in a clapped out gold gti and expect to be allowed to race either.

I was watching Bruni's Gopro footage from Fort William practice, and something caught my eye. From the footage you can actually see when he switches between damping modes from the LEDs on his stem. It happens at least 3 times: 1) blue mode off the start till at least the wood section (I did not check if he switches anything in the upper section); 2) green mode in the wood section until the second turn/shark fin after the road gap; 3) back to blue mode for the new fast section; 4) red mode from the bridge before the motorway to...

Well, back when full suspension was becoming a thing I wrote a letter to Mountain Bike magazine about how ridiculous 4” travel bikes are. It got published. Who could possibly use such a thing? How could anyone need that much travel? sure enjoy my Transition Spur these days…

People's view of "traditional" has changed over the years. Where exactly is the line? First 650b DH bike, some people wanted different race classes. Fairclough stated in an interview that he would retire rather than ride a 29er (which clearly didn't happen) Someone rode an Enduro bike (maybe Sam Hill at Cairns WChamps) and some people thought there should be...

Does anyone else feel like we're on the cusp of everything getting a touch more aero? I assume it's a product of the racing times being so tight. My guess is we'll see frame covers before long if the aero mentality picks up momentum. For me personally, I'd hate to see it go this way. I don't care about how people look but racing results influenced by how well someone can tuck or who slippery their clothes or front triangle are would be lame. Perhaps tracks should get slower with more tech or something. I don't know.

Also good news: Cedric is doing the French commentary. Those of us watching the English language broadcast won't have to listen to him yell inane stuff like "HE LIKES GOING FAST!!!" Are there racers in World Cup finals that don't like going fast? Inquiring minds want to know.

Good job the track isn’t mega high speed where covering lumpy bits of your bike in plastic would give you an aero advantage

Speed suits look a bit odd but still better than the ice hockey player look of the early 2000's. They've clearly skirted around the UCI's poorly worded rule which means its neither the perfect engineering solution, nor good looking; which annoys me. Electronic adjustment I'm all for. But I'm less sure of automatic adjusting. By all means set up your...
