I think it has more to do with the speed they are carrying, the gradient of the slope, and the lack of trees. They are straight hauling so any little mistake and you are traveling a pretty good distance in the wrong direction real quick. To say riders wouldn’t have dsq’d today if there were tape would be a huge underestimation of the prep these riders put into a race run. Once race day comes along they aren’t seeing flags or tape anymore, just their line. Now I would argue that tape can sometimes be less confusing for the viewer on the broadcast but I think the lack of plastic waste and not getting tangled in the tape is worth that small trade off.

I'd much rather fix a carbon bike with a damaged downtube than an aluminium bike with a crack. Between the two, my money would be on the carbon bike having the longer lifespan. Aluminium fatigue is a bitch.

I’d love to see a shoot out of trail bikes using the same linkage designs. It would really interesting to start to dig a bit deeper as to what sets them apart - quality control, kinematics, maintenance, etc etc.

This is only true in a certain ecosystem. To not get caught you need significant amounts of money to fund the doping at the edges. Most athletes don’t have it. doping was widely discussed in EWS circles pre UCI merger. The fact doping in sport is illegal in parts of Europe regardless of whether or not your governing body is a wada signitory, and that’s probably what pushed EWS over the edge. At the same time, posting in forums claiming specific, named, athletes have doped, without proof, is shitty behaviour.
