Primoz Liked a comment about Press Release Antidote Solutions Enters World Cup DH Racing with AS05 Sports-Prototype

At first I was sure this was related to Antidote Bikes... It's not, it's a French design studio.

I think it goes without saying that the torsional stiffness of a fork on a whole is a function of many things. The only point was that, assuming the same material, there isn’t a magic 15 mm axle that’s stiffer than a 20 mm axle. Yes the hub adds to the torsional rigidity of the axle. If you had the same exact hub layout, the 20 mm version would add more stiffness than the 15 mm version. The rigidity of the hub is limited by axle preload and coefficient of friction at the various hub interfaces. Proper axle torque would...

Last year, for one of my engineering classes I did a simulation in Ansys titled “The influence of the axle diameter on the torsional stiffness in an USD bicycle fork”. It was an exercise more focused on Ansys, not on being scientific, but still the results were interesting. Here’s a link to the presentation . TLDR: 20mm was only 4%...

I would thoroughly recommend a day in Morgins if you're riding in the PDS region. +1 for Aosta valley too if you're in that area.

Starting a thread to document adventures in disc brake sacrilege. I just installed Maven bronze calipers on my XT levers. I went with the bronze because those install on existing brake line with sram stealthamajig olives and sram compression nuts. I didn't want to deal spending another $100 on SRAM brake lines, and a $50 on hardware kits to get the banjo bolt, and routing them when I have perfectly good BH-90 already installed. For the install, I pushed a heap of maxima mineral oil through the piston to a cup on the XT lever, did a basic lever bleed...

🥱 This track looks fun to ride, but after a few years of watching riders race 90% of the same track and same lines, my motivation to tune in this weekend is way lower than other rounds. It doesn't help that the track is so one lined and times are so tight, that the broadcast gets super monotonous IMO as it's hard to distinguish when someone is on a good run. I haven't seen this track in person and don't know the constraints of the hillside, but why not move the poles over a few feet in more sections? Couldn't...

Ryan Burney Liked a forum topic What I Learned Starting a Tire Insert Company

Hey, I’m Ryan Burney. I’ve been engineering bikes for 8 years, and this is a breakdown of what I’ve learned starting my own small business, Rim Saver. In this post, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned while launching a product business in the bike world. What worked, what didn’t, and what I’d do differently. If it helps even one person take the leap or avoid a mistake, it’ll be worth it. Background I made the first version of Rim Saver in college. The idea started out as a beadlock concept, then evolved into a beadlock with rim protection, then just rim...

I would think it would be to get the tire tighter on the wheel.

Here's a Slayer prototype frame built in 2018 IIRC. I have another example of an earlier prototype built with a chip that allowed a low or mid-height main pivot. I'll have to fire up my external drive (cough I'm old..) to get a photo.

It’s wild that Big Belt is pumping this up while it’s the gearbox aspect that’s way more interesting. Pinion has to be hyped!

It could be just tape to cover the caliper due to mucky conditions. I do that for riding in the snow.

Danny Hart's GT Fury caught a lot of attention this past World Cup season as it had some notable structural frame modifications to increase compliance. Dale, Danny's mechanic, is a veteran frame engineer and had some great ideas on how to fine tune Danny's bike to work best for his style and to eke out the literal hundreths of a second needed to win races. If you haven't seen these mods, check out this quick section of Vital's PIT BITS video here. Let's dig into each modification. This will be extra fun because I was fortunate enough to be the...

So I watched Jason’s discussion with Dak on these and understandably he’s being a bit cagey (and possibly doesn’t actually know much about them besides that they make him faster haha). Luckily, Fox Factory’s patent application pretty much lays out exactly what the potential benefits are. If mounted on the unsprung mass (like we saw on Dak’s bike last weekend), the TMD can serve to improve the tire’s contact with the ground. This is more or less what SuspensionLabNZ’s video demo above is demonstrating – awesome work on that btw. If mounted on the sprung mass, it seems like it...

So good! Question for everyone: Do you dig the '17 Questions' format? I always enjoyed them growing up, but that was back when getting more insight into your favorite racers/industry peeps wasn't as easy as it is now. They don't do very well on the Toob, which doesn't really matter, but I'm still curious if people are fans of the format.
