An eMTB may not do as much damage per compared mile, but more per compared time. Say you have a 1hr long lunch to go for a ride. On your normal ride on a normal bike, you’d do one loop. Now on the eMTB would you be able to fit two laps in during that time? Are people going to ride based off of distance or off of how long they feel like being out regardless of the bike they are on? There is a big difference between how you ride something with pedal assist and how you ride something with a throttle. Hey David, cheers for chiming in! You're right, the air volume is decreasing as you add more spacers, however it has less effect at sag than you think. Most of the impact the spacers have is felt near bottom out. Here's a graph from RockShox that illustrates this. The static pressure in the shock is constant. Feels like a rant that was a long time coming. I am not going for popularity on Vital here, any pro ebike comments gets knocked pretty quickly online. I believe pedal assist ebikes are simply not a problem. Sure they are not as fun, most days I agree with that, and that’s why mine hasn’t been ridden even once in months. Occasionally like when I’m sick, injured, or just super lazy I would say ebikes are way more fun, at least more fun than not riding. They aren’t real MTBs? They sure aren’t motorcycles, at least not class 1 pedal...

Well said! Like I said in my opinion, I'm not coming down on anyone that chooses to have fun in a different way. I don't hate on roadies, cyclocross riders, or any other subset of two-wheel fun. You're having a good time and I say good for you. I will be really interested to see if your prediction comes true...

I've been mountain biking for quite awhile now (1988). I've owned many different bikes over the years, DH, Freeride, Enduro, trai, etc. I recently bought an Ebike and I will never go back to a mechanical/traditional mtb. I've found climbing to actually be creative and FUN now!-having the ability to pop off of everything on the way up is amazing. Other than occasionally enjoying a random, easy-ish climb when your mind wanders and blends with the meandering undulations of the climb, Climbing SUCKS! (for me at least) Ebikes have turned this SUCKS into FUN!. Additionally, I've found descending, jumping etc...

I'm in love. My fork is a low single pivot Kona, this is a DW Link Pivot. Wheel path is no comparison. Progressive damping, progressive spring curve, no lower leg service, bottoming control and so much more. Steering we've never experienced. No more need to over fork the bike.

Interesting article and clearly touches on some big issues facing both mountain bikers, but also web content creators. First, there clearly are potential issues with E-bikes and traditional bikes sharing trails. The trickiest area is bidirectional singletrack, especially when one person is climbing and the other descending. At times on twisty/windy trails, it can be difficult to see the climbing person until the last minute. With E-bikes motoring up, the potential for collisions and other mishaps seems more likely. This may be why some regions have allowed E-mountain bikes on fireroads and dual tracks, but not on bi-directional singletrack. E-bikes...
