Boeing bought the drawbenches that lived in Connecticut and also the draw benches from Sapa. 2015 was the last time anything except drawn-over-mandrel straight gauge 6061 has been available domestically. Swaging machines and shops that can dome and swage still exist, if you know where to look. There might be an automotive muffler plant in Ohio that has a draw bench suitable to the task in mothballs, but the chances of a dusty old mandrel for a Klein downtube being useful, or there being staff members who remembers how to run the machine are pretty darn low. Another vote from me for never ever bringing back protected riders. This way is so much more interesting. As a hardcore Canadian DH head, I was bummed Finn and Jackson didn't get in, but that's racing. The fastest guys on the weekend qualified. Having all the other Canadian dark horses get in made it extremely exciting. As far as the track marking goes, you go outside the marking, its a DQ. Simple as that. Yeah, it doesn't help that whiteface doesn't have a bike park anymore, and that level hatred for mountain bikes in the "High Peaks" region of the Adirondacks is probably only second to Marin county. I'm stoked to be going to watch racing there, and bummed its no longer going to be there. But as far as way to end the season? A place with no bike park hosting the final DH race is not what this season deserves.
