Spotted EX MS Mondraker rider Mike Jones being handing a New 2024 Mondraker Summum at Dyfi Bike park last weekend.
Seems to be riding with Bristol Based “Sterlands Cycle Service” riders who I know Mark Sterland the owner and Josh the Manager worked for MS Mondraker before.
Apparently they're partnering up with Mondraker UK to develop a WC/National Team with Mike and another couple of riders
Spotted in an Adam Brayton Vlog too!! Now this is something to get excited about. The King of the valleys is back!!!
Funny ya mention the boss of Sterlands....he was in LA with Tuhuto according to a story I saw on Tuhuto's insta the other day. Isn't he...

I can’t be the only one wondering where in the hell Mondraker is pulling all this money from, right? Opening a US based office and funding a factory DH race team and a satellite WC DH team during one of the lowest points the bike industry has been in. Over the last 5 years I can count on one hand how many Mondraker bikes I’ve seen in the flesh… are they much larger outside of ‘Murrica?

I also live in a town with a Mondraker dealer, they just have not sold as well historically considering the pricing. These days maybe they do since they are closer in pricing to the increases we've seen from everyone else. But I am not sure they ever really made a dent in a market.

Would be interesting to see Vans push into MTB... their shoes are already used to a great extent by park rats and freeriders and I am sure they have the $$$ to entice Semenuk if they choose to use him to jump into the MTB world 'officially'. Also wonder how this all coincides with Emil having more of a presence at Etnies.
On a side note, the Etnies Culvert Mid shoes are my current favourite shoes to ride in so I appreciate all the effort they have put into their MTB range.

Refreshingly SMART, not strange. The last thing the industry needs right now is somebody making a product that already exists in overabundance just because they can. Why waste any time, effort, and resources on making a DJ frame when you can source it as part of the deal with Spesh and get paid for riding it instead. We should applaud Neko's focus on what's essential here and actually providing some value to the market (the DH bike, in other words), otherwise they'll just turn into the 1547th "by riders for riders" company churning out generic flat pedals and handlebars...
Whoa. Not sure what nerve I hit there. Literally trying to say throwing together a few DJ frames (for the teams to use, not to introduce as a FW model available to consumers) wouldn't be all that complicated.
But I suppose if they're already sourcing ebike product might as well throw a few DJ bikes on top.

Brew Racing still will produce any DJ frame with any reasonable geometry you care to ask for.
Endless I think used them to produce their unique 26/24 mullet DJ/Urban Assault frames.
I've always wanted someone to order another big batch of frames from him with their own signature logo/geometry & a Zoke DJ fork.

Vans have already tried to push into MTB in the early to mid 2010’s. Google “Vans Warner clipless shoe”. I vividly remember D-Riff and Brad Benny running them in the Chumba/Giant Nerd team days.

Mondraker Factory Racing is here!
But that doesn't mean we know who's riding for them...yet! Here is the timeline of what they intend to present us with:
16.01.2024 - 4PM CET - Presentation of the Team Name, sporting image and sponsors. No riders will be mentioned. 18.01.2024 - 4PM CET - First Rider: 22.01.2024 - 4PM CET - Second Rider: 24.01.2024 - 4PM CET - Third Rider:
Here's what we know so far:
MONDRAKER FACTORY RACING HAS ARRIVED!
OUR FIRST EVER FACTORY DH RACE TEAM IS READY TO PUSH THE LIMITS
Our roots are in racing. Our history is racing. We’ve been on the top step of the podium before and we can’t wait to get back. Mondraker Factory Racing is the means to that end. We’ve created our very first factory DH race team and we’re backing it up with the global commitment of our infrastructure and staff.
Mondraker Factory Racing. RACING NEVER ENDS.
We know what winning is all about. We know how to develop a race winning bike. It was only a question of time for us to take that final step and build the Factory Racing Team. This is a 100% Mondraker project featuring some of the best riders in the world. From our very First World Cup win in Maribor in 2009, through to our triple win in the Vale di Sole World Champs in 2016 and onwards to today, we’ve never backed off on our technological and infrastructure development, and on growing our means to win, and we’re not going to start backing off anytime soon! Everything we’ve done since then has led us to now. Everything we’ve done has brought us to the Mondraker Factory Racing.
Mondraker Factory Racing is made up of nine support staff plus three riders. We’ll be introducing them successively on social media on the 18th, 22nd and 24th of January. Team manager Jorge García, who’s been a big part of the world cup circuit for several years now, had this to say: “This is a very exciting time for both Mondraker and the team. Having the chance to grow a project like this from scratch with the brand I grew up racing on is a dream come true. What’s more, I couldn’t be more stoked about the riders we’ve signed and the team behind them we’ve created. Everyone just gelled from the get-go and we’re loving the passion for racing that Mondraker brings to the table. We’re also impatient to translate all the development that comes from competition to the production line and make it all worthwhile for the brand”
Mondraker Factory Racing team members:
- Team Manager: Jorge García.
- Race Engineer: Pablo Guillem.
- Mechanic #1: Mark Maurissen.
- Mechanic #2: Sergio Agulló.
- Mechanic #3: Ernest Adalid.
- Driver: Pablo Irigoyen.
- Physio: Adrià Baró.
- Photography: Kike Abelleira.
- Video: Louis Citadelle.
Backed up by the best sponsors ever
Mondraker Factory Racing, as well as counting on the backing of the Engineering and Prototypes Department at Mondraker, will also be counting on the sponsorship and backing of some of the most influential and important names in the game. It’s good to know that our drivetrain, brake and suspension partners take this just as seriously as we do and that it’s the union of these brands that make us stronger as a result.
- Shimano: Drivetrain and brakes.
- Fox Racing Shox: Suspension.
- Alpinestars: Kit.
- E*thirteen: Wheels.
- Maxxis: Tyres.
- X-Sauce: Oils, maintenance and cleaning products.
- Ergon: Grips and saddles.
100% support from the factory
One of the key factors behind Mondraker Factory Racing is the unequivocal support it will get from the factory. Miguel Pina, CEO de Mondraker is here to tell us more: “We’re setting out on a new stage in competition with Mondraker Factory Racing. There’s no denying our passion for racing has always been inseparable from our roots as a brand. We’ve always aimed to develop the best tech available, taking it to the absolute limit on some of the toughest race tracks in the world, so it was inevitable that we ended up where we are, with the Mondraker Factory Racing team, because we just knew that we wanted a structure with all the resources of the factory behind it to best serve the needs and potential of some of the best riders in the world. Simply put, we want Mondraker to be back at the top of world class downhill racing. It’s a huge step in our history as a brand, making history in the Formula 1 of mountain biking”.
Don’t forget that on the 18th, 22th and 24th of January we’ll be presenting our riders on social media (Mondraker Bikes / Mondraker.Factory.Racing).

Sounds like Vans has been dumping some of their long time surfers and employees. Debt issues also being reported. There was also a surfer in their Pipe contest that ended up in the hospital with no insurance and people are asking why isn't Vans paying his bill.

I still have my pair. They are heavy and uncomfortable IMO. A downgrade from the 661 Filters I wore beforehand.
My casual shoes were Half Cabs for a long time. I recently ordered a new pair and they changed the width so narrow they were unwearable to me.

Good entertainment in the Beach Grit comments btw...
Not sure why Van's should pay his bills? It's terrible what happened but its pipe. Multipule people ended up in hospital at the contest. Luckily one had a helmet on. Did the sponsor of the WC pay all of Brook's bills? It would be great if the organizations would provide insurance for anyone in the organization doing their events but that would cost money so we know that's not happening

It's still absolutely unacceptable how any athletes on a top level doesn't have insurance?! Weather from his team or private.
Any form of organiser insurance would be great, but most can't even pay own staff. 🙄
What's up with rocky? having a new sled coming out in march/april, first letting jesse go, now ALN? 🤷♂️

They really should have some sort of supplemental insurance setup that is paid for by entry fee. I destroyed my wrist auto racing and had to have it reconstructed and physical therapy. To my surprise my entry fee included a plan like this that picked up every dime my insurance wouldn’t pay. It would have covered it completely if I did not have any insurance. I think there was a cap, but it was up in the six figure range if I remember correctly.

Hopefully it's a similar situation with ALN.
Beach grit and vital. A man of taste I see
Vans have a whole Pro BMX range currently that make great flat pedal MTB shoes.
I've been running the BMX Style 114 for about 6 months and love it.
